Review of the DOXA SUB 200 C-Graph chronograph. We tested the Silver Searambler version. Excellent performances. Price CHF 2,650.
The SUB 200 C-Graph is available in a choice of six colours - Orange Professional, Silver Searambler, Black Sharkhunter, Navy Caribbean, Yellow Divingstar, and Turquoise Aquamarine - and can be matched to either the signature stainless steel ‘rice bead’ bracelet or to a new high-quality rubber strap. For our review, we went hands-on with the Silver Searambler version equipped with a black rubber strap.
This sporty self-winding three-counter chronograph comes in a 45 mm case crafted from 316L stainless steel offering excellent resistance to corrosion. When you handle the watch, and even more when you wear it, you have the impression that the watch is smaller than 45 mm in diameter. This is mainly due to the short lugs and their original shape.
Also crafted from stainless steel, the unidirectional rotating bezel is enhanced by a sapphire insert that guarantees exceptional resistance to scratches.
The screw-down crown is decorated with the "DOXA fish" symbol in orange and, together with the screw-in solid case back, it helps ensuring water resistance up to a pressure of 20 bar (approximately 200 metres / 650 feet). In position 0 the crown is tightly screwed down against the case. By unscrewing it, you can wind the watch in position 1 and set the time of the day in position 2.
The case back is beautifully engraved with the recurring "DOXA fish" symbol that remarks the special link of the brand with the sea world.
The round chronograph pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock are protected with gaskets and very short to reduce the risk of accidental activation.
Protected by an anti-reflective box-shaped sapphire crystal reminiscent of the domed plexiglass of early SUB generations that contributes to an overall thickness of the watch of 17.4 mm, the dial has three snailed counters with a 3-6-9 layout.
The chronograph function includes a central chronograph hand rotating once around the dial every 60 seconds, a 30-minute chronograph counter positioned at 3 o'clock, and a 12-hour chronograph counter positioned at 6 o'clock. The running seconds at 9 o'clock are recognizable at first glance for the square-tipped hands vs the triangular tip used for the two other counters.
The legibility is excellent in any situations, even in poor light environments like underwater, thanks the generous Super-LumiNova luminescent coating used for all the key indications on the dial and on the rotating bezel used to calculate the dive time.
The SUB 200 C-Graph is driven by the Swiss automatic Sellita SW510b calibre, a thoroughly tested and highly reliable cam-operated chronograph movement that beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) with an autonomy of approximately 48 hours.
The wearability of the watch is excellent, also thanks to the comfortable rubber strap, secured to the wrist by a tank buckle with the "DOXA fish" symbol. DOXA markings can be found on both sides. The lug width is 20 mm.
Offering the possibility the choose among six attractive colours and wear it with a steel bracelet or a high-quality rubber strap, the DOXA SUB 200 C-Graph is a sporty chronograph with excellent performances from a specialist in diving watches that guarantees great quality. The Silver Searambler version that we tested has a retail price CHF 2,650 with rubber strap or CHF 2,690 with stainless steel ‘rice bead’ bracelet. doxawatches.com
