Blancpain presented the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Day Date Desert Edition ref. 5052-1146-E52A. A 500-piece edition, it is priced at Euro 12,800.

Blancpain presented a new version of the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Day Date model that was introduced at Baselworld 2018 taking inspiration from a Blancpain diver's watch marketed in the 1970s (you can read about it here). 

A limited edition of 500 pieces, the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Day Date Desert Edition is characterised by a gradient-coloured sandy beige dial featuring a sunburst pattern and clearly evoking the desert, and more specifically Death Valley in the United States.

It is the first time that this particular hue appears in the Bathyscaphe collection. Its shades and sunburst finish makes the dial very luminous while the boldly- sized rectangular hour-markers guarantee instant readability of the information displayed. 

A chapter ring punctuated with Arabic numerals marks the five-minute intervals. The date and day of the week windows are located at 3 o'clock. The hands are coated with Super-LumiNova and feature the baton-shaped design that can be seen on most Bathyscaphe models. 

The dial of the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Day Date Desert Edition is enhanced by a unidirectional rotating bezel with a brown ceramic insert and Liquidmetal hour-markers.

The vintage look of the watch should not mislead as the movement inside boasts the most updated standards of watchmaking technology.

Housed in a 43 mm satin-brushed steel case that is waterproof to 30 bar (approximately 300 metres / 990 feet), the Manufacture-made 1315DD movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers five days of power reserve. Its balance is fitted with a silicon balance-spring to ensure high resistance to magnetic fields. Through the sapphire crystal caseback, it is possible to admire the beautiful finishes and the gold oscillating weight coated with a NAC treatment.
