Rumours were confirmed and Rolex released today the latest generation of its iconic Submariner model. The new Oyster Perpetual Submariner replaces the Submariner Date that was introduced in 2010 at Baselworld. In particular, Rolex introduced ref. 126610LN, ref. 126610LV and ref. 126619LB with prices of respectively.

The new Oyster Perpetual Submariner and Oyster Perpetual Submariner Date replace the Submariner and Submariner Date models that were introduced at Baselworld 2012 and 2010, respectively.
In particular, we highlight today the three models in Oystersteel, the special Rolex alloy belonging to the 904L steel family that is extremely resistant to corrosion:
- ref. 124060 in steel with black dial without date and black ceramic bezel replacing ref. 114060;
- ref. 126610LN in steel with black dial and black ceramic bezel replacing ref. 116610LN;
- ref. 126610LV in steel with black dial and green ceramic bezel replacing ref. 116610LV, also known among collectors as the "Hulk".
The case of the new Submariner 2020 is now 41 mm in diameter vs. 40 mm of the previous version and the lugs have a narrower structure.
Moreover, the Calibre 3235, that was introduced in 2017 and employed for the first time in the Sea-Dweller 43 mm, replaces the old Calibre 3135. Based on the 3235, the Calibre 3230 powering the Submariner No-Date is a 2020 novelty.
The Calibre 3230 and Calibre 3235 self-winding mechanical movements incorporate the Chronergy escapement patented by Rolex, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. Made of nickel-phosphorus, it is also insensitive to magnetic interference.
An optimized blue Parachrom hairspring is fitted to the oscillator, the true heart of the watch. Patented and manufactured by Rolex in an exclusive paramagnetic alloy, it is up to 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks.
Calibre 3230 and Calibre 3235 are equipped with a self-winding module via a Perpetual rotor. Thanks to its new barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency, the power reserve of these movements extends to approximately 70 hours vs. 48 hours of the previous version.
The black dial maintains the typical Submariner layout with large luminescent hour markers in simple shapes – triangles, circles, rectangles – and broad hour and minute hands, all filled with Chromalight luminescent material emitting a long-lasting blue glow for improved legibility in dark conditions.
The rotatable bezel features an engraved 60-minute graduations coated in platinum designed to monitor diving time and decompression stops. Manufactured by Rolex from a hard, corrosion-resistant ceramic, the Cerachrom bezel insert is virtually scratchproof. A luminescent capsule on the zero marker ensures legibility while the bezel’s knurled edge offers excellent grip.
Thanks to the Twinlock double waterproofness system of the crown, the Submariner’s Oyster case guarantees waterproofness to a depth of 300 metres / 1,000 feet.
The remodelled solid-link Oyster bracelet in 904L steel is fitted with an Oysterlock safety clasp that prevents accidental opening. The Glidelock system allows fine adjustment of the bracelet length in 2 mm increments for a total of approximately 20 mm.
Like all Rolex watches, the new Submariner models are covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015 and applied to the fully assembled watch, after casing the movement to guarantee precision, power reserve, waterproofness and self-winding. The precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer after casing is of the order of −2/+2 seconds per day.
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner ref. 124060, 126610LN, 126610LV have suggested retail prices of Euro 7,750, Euro 8,750 and Euro 9,150 respectively.
Also introduced today are five other Submariner variations, including the ref. 126619LB in white gold with black dial and blue bezel replacing ref. 116619LB, the so-called "Smurf". rolex.com

Too much hype for this model. Not so exciting to me.
ReplyDeleteThe hype often comes from monomaniacal fans that are more interested in some speculation than in the watch itself. That said, it looks like a good design streamlining. These lugs are more graceful compared to wider ones of the previous generation. The best part is hidden: the movement offering better performances and, above all, an increased autonomy (from 48 to 70 hours).

DeleteIn the past Rolex was an innovator. But now it has become a boring company. It's just about colouring dials and bezels.
