Launched at the beginning of 2019, the SeaQ collection by Glashütte Original has been received enthusiastically as it offers top-quality diver's watches with no-compromise finishes, manufacture movements and a distinctive look that makes them stand out among so many products that all look the same.
Last year, we published our hands-on review of the big SeaQ Panorama Date 43.5 mm and we are now delighted to share our impressions on its little brother, the SeaQ 39.5 mm.
In particular, we had the opportunity to test and wear the SeaQ model with blue dial that the German brand introduced at the end of last July (ref. 1-39-11-09-81).
The SeaQ 39.5 mm is totally comfortable on the wrist and, thanks to the smaller diameter, it looks perfect both on standard wrists - the one in our pictures is 18 cm / 7 in - and smaller ones. It is not by chance that Glashütte Original is targeting this model also to Ladies, even adding to the collection an eye-catching version with a gem-set bezel rich of glamour.
We loved the matching with a water-resistant and ultra-robust blue nylon mesh strap with pin buckle (optionally available with a fold fastener) that gives the impressions of being almost indestructible.
The watch can also be combined to a steel bracelet with an advanced folding clasp featuring a comfort extension button or to a black rubber strap with relief pattern and fold fastener. A lot of choice.
Alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces, the stainless steel case is 12.15 mm thick, including the domed sapphire crystal, and is equipped with a unidirectional, counter-clockwise rotating bezel featuring a ceramic inlay which makes this highly exposed element exceptionally scratch-resistant.
The bezel rotates with a perceptible and precise click and is enhanced by a blue Super-LumiNova coated triangle to mark the dive start time in conformity to DIN 8306 and ISO 6425 standards for diver's watches. The large screw-down crown is engraved with the brand's double G-logo.
Super-LumiNova is also used for the applied hour markers and the hands, making the indications perfectly readable in any light conditions.
In-house produced in the dedicated manufactory of the brand in Pforzheim, the galvanic blue dial has a sunray finish and it changes hues depending on the light of the environment. The large Arabic numerals contribute to legibility at first glance and contribute to the strong character of this timepiece.
Differently from the SeaQ Panorama Date, the SeaQ 39.5 mm features a standard date aperture positioned at 3 o'clock.
Aligned and then secured in place with a threaded bottom ring, the caseback displays an engraved trident maritime symbol, the Glashütte Original double-G and 20 waves, which represent the 20-bar water resistance (approx 200 metres / 660 feet).
The solid caseback protects the manufactory’s Calibre 39-11, an automatic movement beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a running time of 40 hours with a second-stop function. Even if it is not visible, this movement is meticulously finished with a skeletonized rotor with heavy metal oscillation weight, bevelled edges, polished steel parts, polished screws, Glashütte stripe finish and swan-neck fine adjustment.
Undoubtedly one of the best finished true diver's watches that we have tested so far, this model guarantees manufacturing quality and performances combined to a distinctive and appealing look.
The new Glashütte Original SeaQ 39.5 with galvanic blue dial has a price of Euro 9,100 / US$ 9,000 with blue nylon mesh strap with pin buckle (ref. 1-39-11-09-81-08) or Euro 9,400 / US$ 9,300 with fold fastener (ref. 1-39-11-09-81-34). Same prices for the version with black rubber strap (ref. 1-39-11-09-81-06 and ref. 1-39-11-09-81-33) while the model equipped with a steel bracelet has a price of Euro 10,300 / US$ 10,200 (ref. 1-39-11-09-81-70). glashuette-original.com
