A. Lange & Söhne is presenting three new “Homage to F. A. Lange” models that enrich the 1815 watch family. The 1815 Thin Honeygold “Homage to F. A. Lange” Ref. 239.050 is a limited edition of 175 watches with a price of Euro 33,000. Limited to 100 watches, the 1815 Rattrapante Honeygold “Homage to F. A. Lange” Ref. 425.050 has a price of Euro 130,000. The Tourbograph Perpetual Honeygold “Homage to F. A. Lange” Ref. 706.050FE has a price of Euro 500,000.
On occasion of the five-day Watches & Wonders event in Shanghai (September 9th to 13th, 2020), A. Lange & Söhne is presenting three new “Homage to F. A. Lange” models that enrich the 1815 watch family.
The three limited editions feature precious cases made of exclusive honey gold as well as special movement decorations and dials dedicated to the founder of the brand, Ferdinand Adolph Lange, which established his manufactory in 1845, 175 years ago, giving rise not only to his own company but to an entire watchmaking district.
These editions well represent the connection between traditional watchmaking elements and innovative craftsmanship in processing techniques, thus building a bridge from the origins of Lange watchmaking to the present.
The unifying element of the three pieces - all from the watch family that bears the birth year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange – is the innovative case material, honey gold, which symbolises the scientific side of the manufactory and stands for the stated goal of using metallurgic discoveries for watchmaking. This material is characterised by a warm sheen and exceptional hardness that makes it more scratch-resistant than other gold alloys.
Additionally, all three models stand out thanks to their special movement decorations, which include grained plates made of German silver and black-rhodiumed engravings on the balance cock. Moreover, each of the three watches features a special dial.
The 1815 Thin Honeygold “Homage to F. A. Lange” comes in a diameter of only 38 mm and it is a mere 6.3 mm high. This elegant two-hand watch features a hand-made brilliant white enamel dial with Arabic numerals and a railway-track minute scale, a style inspired by Lange pocket watches of the past.
The 2.9-mm-high manually wound L093.1 manufacture calibre beats at the frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of 72 hours. The granular three-quarter plate with circular graining on the winder wheels is adorned by black-rhodiumed engravings.
Contrary to the Glashütte ribbing commonly used in other Lange models, the German-silver three-quarter plate has a granular surface texture often found in historic Lange pocket watches. The crown and ratchet wheels are decorated with circular graining. Gold chatons secured by three thermally blued screws trace the path of the power transmitted from the mainspring barrel to the escapement.
The freehand engraving on the balance cock is the signature element of all Lange manufacture calibres. The fine lines of the floral pattern are black-rhodiumed, just like the inscription on the plate.

The 1815 Rattrapante Honeygold “Homage to F. A. Lange” places the classic complications of timekeeping – chronograph and rattrapante – in the spotlight and, for the first time, combines honey gold with a black dial made from solid silver.
The superposed chronograph and rattrapante sweep-seconds hands make it possible during a running time measurement to register any number of lap times within the course of a minute. The chronograph sweep-seconds hand, the lower hand, consists of pink-gold-plated steel and entrains the superposed rattrapante – also called split-seconds – hand made of rhodiumed steel.
Both hands start together when the pusher at two o’clock is actuated. The rattrapante sweep-seconds hand can be stopped independently of the chronograph sweep-seconds hand and then resynchronised with it. The French word “rattrapante” describes this sequence. The verb “rattraper” means “to catch up again”. This function is controlled with the pusher at ten o’clock.
If it is actuated during an ongoing measurement, the rattrapante sweep-seconds hand stops and displays the lap time while the chronograph sweep-seconds hand keeps running. A second actuation of the pusher causes the rattrapante sweep-seconds hand to catch up and then synchronise with the chronograph sweep-seconds hand.
The 41.2 mm x 12.6 mm case frames the new L101.2 hand wound calibre.
The control of elapsed or lap-time measurements is handled with two column wheels. When fully wound, the mainspring barrel delivers a power reserve of 58 hours. In connection with the screw balance, also manufactured in-house, the freely oscillating Lange balance spring guarantees excellent rate accuracy at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz).
Limited to 100 watches and exclusively available in A. Lange & Söhne boutiques, the 1815 Rattrapante Honeygold “Homage to F. A. Lange” Ref. 425.050 has a price of Euro 130,000 (including German VAT 19%).
The last timepiece is the exclusive Tourbograph Perpetual Honeygold “Homage to F. A. Lange”, an edition of just 50 pieces displaying five watchmaking feats: tourbillon, fusée-and- chain transmission, chronograph, rattrapante and perpetual calendar.
The black-rhodiumed honey gold dial showcases a new style with raised numerals and scales that stand out from the dark background as a ground relief for a three-dimensional effect.
The 43 mm x 16.6 mm case houses the hand-wound calibre L133.1 consisting of 684 parts that beats at the frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vph) with an autonomy of 36 hours.
The surfaces of the German-silver bridges and cocks are granularly textured and endowed with black-rhodiumed inscriptions.
The tourbillon cage is suspended between two diamond endstones as was the case in Ferdinand Adolph Lange’s historic pocket watches of the then highest quality level, the 1A category. Other technical details of that category included a balance wheel with gold poising screws and screwed gold chatons to secure the bearing jewels.
