Two-tone watches are trendy once again and most brands have expanded their collections with models that combine steel and gold.
Baume et Mercier recently introduced the Clifton Baumatic 10458, an appealing two-tone model that comes in a 40 mm x 11.3 mm round case crafted from stainless steel and 18K pink capped gold. Case and bezel are polished with part of the flanks satin-brushed, a detail that emphasises the refined lines. The same type of finishes are used for the elegant steel and pink capped gold bracelet that is secured to the wrist by a triple folding clasp with security push-pieces.
The dial has a warm-white porcelain-finish and is decorated with an anthracite crosshair in the center. This detail remarks that this model is powered by a movement certified as a chronometer (daily rate of −4/+6 sec) by the COSC, the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute.
Slightly domed to better harmonise with the bezel, the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal has an anti-glare treatment that improves the legibility of the dial featuring a black minute track, gilt Alpha hands and gilt riveted indices. The oversized date aperture at 3 o’clock completes the classic aesthetic of this three-hand watch.
Beating at a a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) with chronometric precision, the self-winding BM13-1975A Baumatic movement is visible through the sapphire crystal case back and offers a remarkable power reserve of 5 days.
Its silicon balance-spring is antimagnetic, three times lighter than the ordinary alloys used for hairspring, resistant to corrosion and less sensitive to small impacts and repeated vibrations. The high-performance escapement was designed with an unusual geometry to reduce losses relating to friction and improving the torque transmission between the components, thus ensuring a 30% higher autonomy.
