Omega presented a new Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon that is the result of its partnership with the Alinghi sailing team.
The two world-renowned Swiss brands combined their passion for innovation and performance to create a Speedmaster timepiece that is perfectly in line with the design, the colours and the materials characterizing a super fast Alinghi boat that flies across the water.
The 44.25 mm x 13.80 mm case of the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Alinghi is entirely made of black zirconium oxide ceramic. The black dominating the watch is contrasted by red, a colour which is often associated to passion and energy.
Along with a tachymetre scale in Super-LumiNova, the outward design is also notable for the Alinghi logo on the stop/start pusher, which has been created in red varnish. Red is also used for tachymetre word as well as for the stitching and the internal rubber section of the perforated black leather strap.
A scratch‑resistant sapphire crystal with anti‑reflective treatment on both sides protects the dial which reprises the black and red theme.
At 3 o’clock, the 30-minute chronograph counter is enhanced by a 4-minute or 5-minute tactical time display in red, helping with precision on the water.
At 6 o’clock, the traditional design of the 12-hour chronograph counter has been replaced with a sandblasted and anodized aluminium disc, which features the Alinghi logo transferred in red. The team’s logo represents the letter “a” and is inspired by two boats churning the seas before the start of a match race. The logo rotates on the watch when the chronograph function is used.
Finally, at 9 o'clock, we find the openworked running seconds subdial.
The background is dominated by a black carbon pattern, inspired by the carbon that is used for the boat’s hull, with some cuts to reveal surfaces decorated with a honeycomb effect or glimpses of the movement underneath.
Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, the blackened and decorated version of the Calibre 1861 - here called 1865 - is not less amazing than the dial. Beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, this light and thin hand-wound movement offers a power reserve of 48 hours.
Using laser ablation, the mainplate and barrel bridge have been given a honeycomb effect while all other bridges are embellished by a black carbon pattern.
Water resistant to 5 bar (50 metres / 167 feet), the Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Alinghi ref. 311.92.44.30.01.002 has a price of Euro 10,300 (incl. VAT) / US$ 10,800 (excl. sales taxes). omegawatches.com

Love it but I would prefer it as a standard edition, no logos other than Omega.
ReplyDeleteLove it although I would expect a Seamaster for Alinghi rather than a Speedy.
