German watchmaker Stefan Kudoke is introducing today the Kudoke 2 Nocturne Limited Edition 2020. The Kudoke 2 Nocturne Limited Edition has a price of Euro 8,665 (excluding sales taxes) that is also the current price of the collection model.
Following the Kudoke 2 timepiece presented last year at Baselword and winner of the Petite Aiguille prize at the Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie de Geneve 2019 (you can read about it here), German watchmaker Stefan Kudoke is introducing today a fascinating 20-piece limited edition of this model.
Compared to the collection version that features a silver-white dial with blued hands, the Kudoke 2 Nocturne Limited Edition is characterized by a darker galvano-anthracite, frosted dial - hence the name "Nocturne" - whose colour changes from light grey to dark grey depending on the light of the environment.
When you handle the watch, the eye is immediately attracted by the rotating domed sky disk at 12 o'clock, hand-engraved and electroplated in yellow gold, black rhodium and white rhodium.
The small gold-plated triangle indicates whether it is day or night by sweeping around the 24-hour ring while the time is indicated on the outer rhodium-plated chapter ring by the matching hour and minute hands.
In some cases, the perfectly polished hands will appear completely black so changing the face of the watch. The hour hand is enhanced by the infinity sign, a Kudoke signature that we will find again on the back side.
39 mm in diameter and 10.7 mm high, the polished round case with slightly curved lugs is completed by a beautifully refined onion-shaped crown bearing the K letter in relief. Featuring sapphire glasses on both sides, the watch is water resistant to 5 atm (approximately 50 metres / 165 feet).
Turning the watch is a pleasing experience. Differently from the standard calibre that is finished in yellow gold, the Kaliber 1-24h is presented in white rhodium.
Inspired by the design of historical English pocket watches, this hand-wound 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) movement integrates a module that controls the 24-hour indication displayed on the dial side and offers an autonomy of 46 hours.
Meticulously executed by hand, finishes include the polishing of the edges and the hand-hammering of the balance cock, engraved with the infinity sign that we have met before. Even the snail-finish on the wheels is performed by hand.
