Review of the Omega Constellation Gents 41mm. Prices of ref. 131.33.41.21.06.001, ref. 131.63.41.21.03.001 and ref. 131.63.41.21.01.001. With their distinctive look, the new Omega Constellation Gents Master Chronometer 41 mm will certainly add character and elegance to any wrist. Prices are in line with the quality of the timepieces, their state-of-the-art movements and the prestige of the brand.
Launched by Omega last week, the new Constellation Gents Master Chronometer 41 mm are watches of pure sophistication but with a twist compared to the 36 mm and 39 mm versions thanks to a larger case size and the use of high-tech materials.
The result is an elegant watch with a contemporary touch. Its bolder look makes the watch more versatile, at ease with a suit in a business environment just like with a week-end casual fit.
With its 41 mm size, the new Constellation has a strong presence on the wrist while remaining very comfortable thanks to its distinctive barrel-shaped case with no lugs. Instead, the half-moon facets at the top and bottom and the leather strap are connected via a single metallic link. The strap features an anti-bacterial rubber lining and it is secured to the wrist by a folding clasp.
For those who prefer a complete metallic look, it is good to know that any bracelet in the Constellation 39 mm collection can be used for these 41 mm models.
The style of the new models is defined by details that have become typical of this line, such as the four claws, the top and bottom half-moon facets, the Roman numerals on the bezel and the golden star on the dial.
The streamlined lines of the case are well highlighted by its meticulous finish alternating polished and bevelled edges to satin-brushed surfaces. For added style, the crown has been reshaped too.
Protected by a domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides, the dial is defined by redesigned hands and applied hour-markers, which have taken inspiration from the triangular facets of the Freedom Tower in New York. The hands are filled with white Super-LumiNova for optimal readability even in poor light conditions. The trapezoidal date aperture is positioned at 6 o'clock for enhanced symmetry and visual balance.
The watches of the Constellation Gents 41 mm line are available in several colours and materials. For our article, we had the opportunity to spend a few days with three references, each offering a different style.
The first, reference 131.33.41.21.06.001, comes in stainless steel with a polished black ceramic bezel with Roman numerals in Liquidmetal. It features a silk-embossed rhodium-grey dial with blackened hands and facetted indexes. Price: Euro 6,200.
It looks like dual-tone watches are very trendy and, for sure, the Constellation ref. 131.63.41.21.03.001 has a striking look with its combination of stainless steel, 18K Sedna gold (a proprietary rose gold alloy which blends gold, palladium and copper) and a polished blue ceramic bezel with Roman numerals in Ceragold. The sun-brushed blue dial offers the ideal contrast for the hands and the indexes made in 18K Sedna gold. Price: Euro 8,300.
The 18K yellow gold case of third model - reference 131.63.41.21.01.001 - is matched to a polished black ceramic bezel with Roman numerals in Ceragold for a perfectly smooth surface. The sun-brushed black dial makes the hands and the applied indexes in 18K yellow gold stand out. Price: Euro 19,500.
The domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal casebacks display the self-winding Omega Master CoAxial Calibre 8900 (for steel and steel/gold models) or Calibre 8901 (for gold models), the latter enriched by rotor and balance bridge in 18K Sedna gold.
Both movements operate at the frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour (3.5 Hz) with a power reserve of at least 60 hours guaranteed by two barrels mounted in series. They are beautifully decorated with Geneva waves in arabesque.
All watches are water resistant up to 5 bar (50 metres / 167 feet) and Master Chronometer certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). In order to earn this distinction, the finished watches - not just the movement - are tested for their precision, during and after exposure to magnetic fields greater than 15,000 Gauss, for autonomy and for water resistance. The exceptional performance in terms of resistance to magnetic fields is possible thanks to the free sprung-balance with silicon balance spring equipping the movements.
With their distinctive look, the new Omega Constellation Gents Master Chronometer 41 mm will certainly add character and elegance to any wrist. Prices are in line with the quality and flawless finishes of the timepieces, their state-of-the-art movements and the prestige of the brand. omegawatches.com
