Glashütte Original is presenting a precious limited edition of the Senator Chronometer housed in a white gold. The Glashütte Original Senator Chronometer Limited Edition can matched to a blue Louisiana alligator leather strap with a pin buckle (ref. 1-58-03-01-04-01) or a foldover clasp (ref. 1-58-03-01-04-30) with pricing starting from Euro 26,710.
Introduced in 2009, the Senator Chronometer has become a permanent and successful member of the Senator Collection by Glashütte Original.
This year, the Saxon watchmaker is presenting a precious 25-piece limited edition housed in a white gold case with a dial in solid gold and a meticulously refined gold-plated manufactory movement.
Glashütte Original has a tradition in the manufacturing of "chronometers", watches whose exceptional accuracy is certified by an authorised testing institute. All wristwatch chronometers from Glashütte Original have their rate precision tested by the German Calibration Service, whose tests are based on the German chronometer standard requiring that the timepiece enable setting of the time precisely to the second and that the movement complete the entire test while mounted in its case.
Inspired by historic marine chronometers, the dial features central hour and minute hands, small seconds at 6 o’clock, a power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock and the signature Panorama Date at 3 o’clock. This is a jumping date, i.e. the date change takes place precisely at midnight in seconds. The corrector, which allows one to set the date quickly, is located on the caseband at 4 o’clock.
A small round opening within the power reserve indicator at 12 o'clock is used to indicate whether it is day or night: from 6 o’clock in the morning until 6 in the evening the small circle appears in white, from 6 p.m. on in black.
The dial is created at the watchmaker’s own dial manufactory in Pforzheim starting from a blank made of solid gold that is engraved with great care. The engravings are then filled with black lacquer and burnt in with heat in a kiln.
Silver plating is made by hand by rubbing a calibrated mixture of fine silver powder, salt and water with a brush, in order to achieve a shining silver surface.
The pear-shaped hour and minute hands in blued steel and the two additional small hands, also blued, add the perfect touch to a dial of great elegance and perfect legibility.
The 42 mm x 12.47 mm classic round case houses the hand-wound Calibre 58-03 movement, whose wheel bridge is also silver plated and subsequently given a galvanic coating in rose gold. The other frame components are also coated entirely in galvanic rose gold.
Beating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) with an autonomy of 44 hours, features a second-stop mechanism. When the crown is pulled out, the time display stops and the seconds hand is reset to zero and held there. When one turns the crown to set the time of the day, the minute hand jumps from one index to the next – thus ensuring that the correct relationship between seconds and minutes is maintained.
The characteristic three-quarter plate, screw-mounted gold chatons, polished and bevelled steel parts and the hand-engraved balance cock can be admired though the sapphire crystal.
