Blancpain presented a new versions of its Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe that combines, for the first time for this model, the seducing blue hue of dial and bezel to the warm tones of a Sedna gold case.
The deep blue of the dial becomes even more appealing thanks to its sunburst finish and offers a perfect contrast to the rectangular hour-markers and the chapter ring composed of gold and Super-LumiNova dots. Complemented by a slim seconds hand and a date window, the hour and minute hands are also rectangular and coated with Super-LumiNova, reprising the design of the Bathyscaphe watches of the 1950s.
Featuring a sharp outline and satin finish, the 43 mm x 13.40 mm case of the watch is crafted from Sedna gold, a special alloy that combines gold, copper and palladium to improve the brilliance of red gold over time.
The unidirectional rotating bezel is also made from Sedna gold and fitted with a ceramic insert enhanced by time scale and hour-markers in Ceragold.
Water-resistant to 300 meters / 1,000 feet, the new Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe is powered by the self-winding calibre 1315 beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and featuring three series-coupled mainspring barrels for a five-day power reserve.
Displayed through a sapphire crystal case back, this movement is fitted with a balance-spring in silicon which offers several benefits. In fact, its low density makes it particularly light as well as resistant to shocks and magnetic fields. These properties ensure the almost perfect geometry of the balance-spring, thereby improving the isochronism of the movement and consequently the precision of the watch. The sandblasted, satin-finished and snailed Sedna gold oscillating weight is engraved with the Blancpain logo.
Offered with two strap options, a sail canvas version (ref. 5000-36S40-O52A) or a three-ring NATO strap (ref. 5000-36S40-NAOA), the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe in Sedna gold has a price of Euro 23,840 (including VAT). blancpain.com
