Omega announced today the release of the new De Ville Tourbillon Numbered Edition, Omega’s first ever Master Chronometer certified hand-wound central Tourbillon.
This certification assures that this timepiece satisfies the Swiss industry’s highest standard of precision and performance, including resistance to magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss. This is particularly remarkable if you consider that the tourbillon cage will keep rotating and maintain its chronometric precision even after exposure to magnetic fields of such intensity.
This is the latest accomplishment of the Swiss brand in the history of the tourbillon. In 1947, Omega launched the first-ever wristwatch tourbillon calibre (before this model, the tourbillon devices were mounted only on pocket watches or table clocks). Designed for use in chronometry competitions where it achieved the best results recorded by a wristwatch up to that time, the tourbillon of Calibre 30I performed one revolution every 7.5 minutes.
In 1994, Omega introduced the first self-winding central tourbillon wristwatch, with the carriage positioned in the middle of the watch. A decade later, in 2004, it produced the first tourbillon wristwatch to be certified as a chronometer.
In 2020, Omega achieves another milestone with the new De Ville Tourbillon Numbered Edition, whose exceptional Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 2640 can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback.
Its bridges and mainplate are made from 18K Sedna gold - a rose gold alloy which blends gold, palladium and copper - and have been hand-bevelled for a decorative finish. The 3-day power reserve indicator is placed on the back to leave the dial as clean as possible.
The 43 mm central casebody, buckle logo and crown logo are made from 18K Canopus gold - an exclusive white gold alloy characterized by high brilliance, whiteness and longevity - while the lugs, bezel and caseback of the watch are crafted from 18K Sedna gold.
Protected by a domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides, the sun-brushed dial is made of 18K Sedna gold but treated with black PVD to obtain a captivating dark shade.
The tourbillon cage with hand polished bevels in black ceramised titanium takes centre stage and drives the movements of the mysterious hands.

Technically impressive and beautifully designed but the price makes it a wild dream.
