After 2 years of work, the Atelier de Chronometrie team presented their latest effort, the Atelier de Chronométrie #8 or, more simply, the AdC8, a split-second chronograph. The price of an Atelier de Chronométrie AdC8 rattrapante chronograph starts at Euro 85,000. As every piece created by Atelier de Chronométrie is a unique timepiece, the final price of each project is fixed depending on the customer’s requirements.
Based in Barcelona, Atelier de Chronométrie was established in 2015 by a team of watchmakers and watch experts united by the same desire to create hand-made timepieces using age old watchmaking techniques and tools while directly interacting with each customer to tailor a truly unique piece each time.
Customers can choose from many options such as the case material, the type of dial design and different choices for the calibre as well as type of movements from time only till complications.
After 2 years of work, the Atelier de Chronometrie team presented their latest effort, the Atelier de Chronométrie #8 or, more simply, the AdC8, a split-second chronograph whose aesthetics is clearly influenced by the elegance of the 1940s.
Based on a Venus 185 movement, this three-counter rattrapante chronograph is presented in a new case design made of 18k grey gold with teardrop lugs.
The Pulsations black galvanic “gilt” dial with silvered lettering and scales, and applied Breguet numerals, completes the overall look of this chronograph.
The AdC8 was commissioned by a a collector of independents from California and the starting point was the choice of a good calibre, then followed by the design of the ideal case for it. Just imagine that the creation process of the case alone took 9 months.
Measuring 39.8 mm in diameter and 15 mm in height, the three-body case features a concave bezel and case back and teardrop lugs with high polish finishes. The design of the crown with the rattrapante pusher and the two pushers has been executed in order to not protrude excessively from the case profile to maintain harmony.
For the dial, a two-tone rose and silver version was also developed but the final choice was the black one. The black galvanic “gilt” with mirror polished silvered lettering and scales was made by a technique very common in the past but rarely used in our days as it is very time consuming. The applied Breguet numerals and three engine-turned counters (30-minute counter, 12-hour counter and seconds counter) well harmonise with the 7 leaf hands made in 18k grey gold.
From a total of 280 parts that make up the hand-wound movement, 50 new parts have been created completely by hand without using CNC milling machines. The rest of the 230 parts have been modified and decorated by hand too.
The finishes include handmade grainage as well as black polish, anglage, perlage, polished countersinks, straight graining, and etirage des flancs. The pink gold plated bridges and the rhodium plated wheels make the steel accents of the levers, the black polished parts and the purple black polished beveled screws really stand out. At the center, a new rattrapante wheel made of titanium with the shape of the Atelier de Chronométrie symbol further characterise the ensemble.
Slow beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour, the movement has an autonomy of 36 hours.
