Nomos Glashütte continues supporting the Nobel Prize-winning organization Doctors Without Borders with two new special editions in stainless steel of the Ahoi model the Ahoi neomatik and the larger Ahoi Datum.
Each edition will be limited to only 250 pieces worldwide and 250 Euros from each watch will go directly to the German section of Doctors Without Borders for providing emergency aid over the world and fight against the consequences of epidemics, natural catastrophes, and forced migration.
The two watches are easily recognizable for their red twelve on its dial, red being the colour of Doctors Without Borders and of emergency aid.
“Ärzte ohne Grenzen” (Doctors without Borders in German) is subtly inscribed at 6 o'clock on the white silver-plated dial.
The hour indexes and the hour and minute hands are filled by white Super-LumiNova for enhanced visibility in darker environments.
Measuring 36.3 mm in diameter and 9.6 mm of thickness, the Ahoi neomatik ref. 560.S1 is powered by the neomatik calibre DUW 3001, an in-house, self-winding movement equipped with the Nomos proprietary swing system which is particularly efficient, needing just a few motions of the arm for full winding. This 3Hz (21,600 vph) movement offers remarkable features including decentralised seconds, a stop-seconds mechanism, bidirectional winding motor and incabloc shock protection. The power reserve is approximately 43 hours.
The Ahoi Datum ref. 551.S2 is larger with a diameter of 40.3 mm and a total thickness of 10.6 mm. The movement of choice is the DUW 5101 automatic caliber. Equipped with the patented Nomos date mechanism and beautifully finished, it offers 42 hours of power reserve. The DUW denotation (Deutsche Uhrenwerke) identifies movements with Nomos swing system, the company’s proprietary escapement, recognizable by the tempered blue balance spring.
The engraving on the caseback remarks that the watch is one of just 250 pieces available worldwide.
Water-resistant to 200 meters / 660 feet, the new watches are matched to a comfortable Nomos Sport bracelet made of 145 stainless steel links screwed together and secured to the wrist by a deployant clasp.
