Czapek is expanding its collection with a new sport-chich model, the Antarctique.
Rather than focusing on complications, Czapek makes this timepiece exclusive by emphasising factors like design, quality finishes, materials and attention to details.
The dial of the Antarctique was created using the old and rare lamé technique that consists in creating a series of traits on the dial with a comb. These characteristic striations give the colours more depth and starker reflections. The sword-shaped hands and the applied edgy indexes are filled with luminescent material for increased readability in poor light conditions. The date window is positioned at 6 o'clock to maintain the Czapek aesthetics based on vertical symmetry.
The transparent case back reveals the sculpted architecture of the SXH5.01 automatic caliber. A free-sprung balance wheel with variable inertia provided by four gold masselotte weights enables the highest level of precision tuning for a mechanical watch.
The gear train is held in place by a series of seven skeletonized bridges, with straight-grained sides and chamfered inward angles, inspired by nineteenth-century pocket watches.
Manufactured in La-Chaux-de-Fonds out of a very special ‘fully recycled’ 18-kt gold, the micro-rotor was placed off-centre to allow a plunging view into the beautiful mechanism.
Beating at the frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour ), the SXH5.01 offers a power reserve of at least 56 hours, which is excellent for a micro-rotor.
The watch features an integrated bracelet, whose links mesh to form a highly polished "C" for Czapek. Fitted with a quick-change system, the watch is delivered with an additional rubber strap.
Water-resistant to 120 meters / 400 feet, the Antarctique is available in several variations.
The Antarctique Terre Adélie will be in made in a limited edition of 99 pieces. Its name is a tribute to the French explorer Jules Dumont d’Urville who named an Antarctica island after his wife, Adèle, during one of his expeditions. It comes in four colours, Deep Blue, Secret Alloy, Black Ink and Burgundy. Available on subscriptions only, this model has a price of Swiss Francs 18,000.
