A new perpetual calendar model enriches IWC's Portugieser collection. For the first time, the renowned calendar module designed by master watchmaker Kurt Klaus was integrated in an IWC-manufactured movement from the 82000-calibre family.
Thanks to its compact dimensions, the IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar IW3442 has a case diameter of just 42 mm (more precisely measures are 42.4 mm x 13.8 mm).
This model comes in three variations:
- ref. IW344203 in stainless steel with a silver-plated dial and gold-plated hands and appliques;
- ref. IW344202 in 18ct 5N red gold with silver-plated dial, gold-plated hands and 18ct gold appliques;
- ref. IW344205, a boutique-only edition in 18ct 5N red gold with blue dial, gold-plated hands and 18ct gold appliques.
In this version of the calendar, the displays for the date, month and day of the week are distributed over three subdials at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. The perpetual moon phase display was integrated into the month display and deviates from the actual orbit of the moon by only one day after 577.5 years.
An indicator in the weekday display counts the years until the next leap year.
The perpetual calendar’s mechanical programme independently recognizes the different lengths of the months and adds an extra day at the end of February every four years. All the displays are perfectly synchronized with each other and can be adjusted simply via the crown.
The IWC-manufactured 82650 calibre advances the calendar module with a single impulse during the night. Visible through the transparent sapphire-glass back, this refined movement beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and guarantees an autonomy of 60 hours. The automatic Pellaton winding is equipped with zirconium oxide ceramic components.
Completed by alligator leather straps manufactured by Santoni and secured to the wrist by a new folding clasp for the steel model or a pin buckle for the gold ones, the IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar has a price of Euro 22,700 in stainless steel (ref. IW344203) and Euro 32,800 in red gold (ref. IW344202 and IW344205). iwc.com
