Review of the Cyrus Klepcys Chronograph, characterized by an avant-garde design and an unconventional chronograph display. We put our hands on the steel and black DLC titanium version. The Cyrus Klepcys Chronograph in steel and black DLC titanium (ref. 539.501.SD.A) is a limited edition of 100 pieces with a price of Euro 12,600.
Most of our readers know Cyrus Watches for ultra-exclusive timepieces like the Klepcys Vertical Tourbillon and its skeletonised version but the Swiss brand uses its unique and original approach to watchmaking also for timepieces that are more accessible in terms of pricing while maintaining their distinctive style and quality.
This is the case of the Klepcys Chronograph, characterized by an avant-garde design and an unconventional chronograph display offering excellent readability.
This model is available in five different variations: full steel, steel and black DLC titanium, full black DLC titanium, rose gold and black DLC titanium and full rose gold.
We put our hands on the steel and black DLC titanium version and we are now glad to share some pictures and our impressions with our readers.
Characterized by its two symmetric crowns, the cushion-shaped case of this model is made of stainless steel and enriched by a titanium bezel with black DLC treatment that creates continuity with the integrated black rubber strap.
With a diameter of 46 mm excluding the two crowns, the case is certainly imposing but it still wears comfortably on average wrists (the wrist in our pictures is 17.7 cm / 7") thanks to its curved lugs and ergonomic profile.
The crown at three o'clock has three positions: 0 (when the crown is positioned against the case) to wind the movement, 1 to adjust the date and 2 to set the time. While in position 0, the crown at 3 o'clock can be pressed to start and stop the chronograph function. To reset the chronograph hands it is sufficient to press the pusher integrated in the crown at 9 o'clock.
Instead of using the traditional two- or three-counter chronograph layouts, the Klepcys Chronograph features an off-centered hour and minute sub-dial with the chronograph hour and minute counters aligned vertically aligned in the center of the dial.
The elapsed time is shown using the central seconds hand and two partially hidden rotating discs with static red indexes, one indicating the minutes at 12 o'clock and the other, for the hours, at 6 o'clock.
At 9 o'clock we find the running seconds displayed by means of a red/white rotating disc. On its left, an arched aperture offers an overview of seven calendar days with a small dot marking the current date.
Protected by a crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment on both sides, the dial can be admired for its meticulous finishes. Just look at the off-centered sub-dial featuring a background decorated by a geometric pattern made of small raised triangles and a snailed outer circle with applied indices and numerals, all coated with Super-LumiNova. The luminescent material is also used for the facetted and shot-blasted openworked minutes and hour hands.
The caseback is fastened with screws customised with the Cyrus logo, another confirmation of the level of attention that the brand pays to even the smaller details. Through the sapphire crystal, it is possible to have a view of the self-winding Calibre CYR314, a highly efficient and reliable chronograph movement beating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and offering an autonomy of 48 hours.
Made of caoutchouc rubber, the black strap is secured to the wrist by a stainless steel folding clasp with the typical Cyrus logo.
