To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Grand Seiko has created the Spring Drive 5 Days, the latest evolution of the Spring Drive movement. The new Grand Seiko 60th Anniversary Limited Edition Professional Diver’s 600M ref. SLGA001 is a limited edition of 700 pieces that will be available worldwide in August with an indicative price of Euro 11,500 / US$ 11,100.
To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Grand Seiko has created the Spring Drive 5 Days, the latest evolution of the Spring Drive, an innovative movement created in 1999 to combine the autonomy of mechanical movements with the higher precision of electronic ones.
In fact, the Spring Drive generates electrical power from the unwinding of the mainspring, just like all other mechanical watches, allowing the watch to be entirely autonomous, with no need for a battery. The electrical power generated by the glide wheel is then used to activate a quartz oscillator vibrating at 32,768 Hz. Electromagnetic power is also used to control the speed at which the spring unwinds acting as a brake.
The new Spring Drive Caliber 9RA5 is now slimmer (from 5.8 mm to 5.0 mm), more precise (from ±15 seconds a month to ±10) and with a greater power reserve (five days), achieving a new level of excellence. It also offers enhanced rigidity and shock resistance fully meeting the ISO standard for diver’s watches.
The new movement makes its debut in a professional diver’s watch that perfectly marks this special anniversary of Grand Seiko.
The Grand Seiko 60th Anniversary Limited Edition Professional Diver’s 600M comes in a high-intensity titanium case (40% lighter than steel) with a diameter of 46.9 mm and a thickness of 16 mm. It has helium and water resistance that meet the challenge of saturation diving at depths of up to 600 meters / 2,000 feet.
The case, crystal and bezel are designed for easy and safe disassembly for the maintenance that a professional diver demands.
To guarantee excellent legibility at first glance, the hands, the indexes and the unidirectional rotating bezel are generously treated with Lumibrite, clearly standing out against the black background. Positioned at 10 o’clock, the power reserve indicator is divided into five parts to show exactly how many days of power are left.
The new model is matched to a high-intensity titanium bracelet secured to the wrist by a three-fold clasp with lock and push button release.
Presented in a special anniversary box that includes an interchangeable blue silicone strap, the new Grand Seiko 60th Anniversary Limited Edition Professional Diver’s 600M ref.
