The Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique 5367 by Breguet is now available in a new version characterized by a deep blue enamel dial. Presented in 2017 with a white enamel dial and thermally blued hands, the Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique 5367 by Breguet is now available in a new version characterized by a deep blue enamel dial.
Beyond providing decoration to the dial, enamel work is a specialised craft that requires great dexterity as well as rigor and patience.
Blue or black enamels are among the most challenging to craft because darker colours reveal even the slightest imperfection. Only few experienced and skilled artisans are capable to master this age-old process that has been applied to horology since the Renaissance remaining virtually unchanged over time. Today, Breguet keeps this art alive with a workshop entirely dedicated to enamelling.
The enamel is applied with a brush to the gold dial while still wet, in a thin and consistent layer. It is then heated in a furnace at a temperature higher than 800°C.
The final result is obtained by adding several layers of enamel until the desired color is reached. The special hue of the new timepiece is a blend of a number of blue nuances. After a gentle polishing, the dial is placed in the furnace one last time to achieve the unique brilliance typical of this technique.
Standing out against the blue background, the moon-tipped hands made of rhodium-plated steel guarantee perfect legibility while they sweep around a chapter ring bearing silvered Arabic numerals, stars, diamond shapes and fleur-de-lis.
Just above the tourbillon carriage, it is possible to discover the famous secret signature that Abraham-Louis Breguet first introduced in 1795 as a guarantee of authenticity (you can read the history of the Maison Breguet here).
The 41 mm x 7.45 mm platinum case with fluted caseband and welded lugs houses the 581 caliber, Breguet’s thinnest tourbillon movement at just 3 mm of thickness.
Placed between 4 and 6 o’clock, the tourbillon is housed in a titanium carriage that features a made-to-measure escapement and a silicon Breguet balance spring oscillating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) with a remarkable autonomy of 80 hours thanks to its high-energy barrel, a concept patented by Breguet.
