The rattrapante is the most sophisticated interpretation of the chronograph complication. Thanks to this function, the new Breitling Navitimer B03 Chronograph Rattrapante 45 can measure different events that begin but do not end together.
When the chronograph is started, two superimposed chronograph second hands start moving together, until a press of the pusher in the crown "splits" them, with the top hand continuing and the bottom split-seconds hand stopping to allow an intermediate time to be noted. By again pressing the pusher, the split-seconds hand will instantly catch up to the main chronograph hand, ready again to record a new intermediate time.
Housed in an imposing 45 mm x 15.73 mm red gold case, the new model features a Stratos Gray dial with hour markers and hour and minute hands coated with Super-LumiNova to ensure excellent readability in all lighting conditions.
The stylized “B” logo with an anchor, that adorns the base of the central second hands in all the Navitimer chronographs, is here different. In fact, the logo is divided between the two hands. The B is on the red chronograph hand, while the anchor sits on the split second hand. The two elements separate when the split second hand is stopped, ready to reform the complete symbol when the two hands realign with each other.
Enhanced by the typical bidirectional rotating bezel with circular slide rule, the case is water resistant up to 3 bar (30 meters / 100 feet). The transparent sapphire case back showcases the Breitling Manufacture Caliber B03 and its red gold oscillating weight.
Produced by Breitling at its Chronométrie facility in La Chaux-de-Fonds, this COSC-certified chronometer movement offers a power reserve of around 70 hours and beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vph).
Matched to a black alligator leather strap with a pin buckle, the Breitling Navitimer B03 Chronograph Rattrapante 45 (ref. RB0311E61F1P1) has a price of Euro 26,270 / US$ 27,480. breitling.com
