Laurent Ferrier unveiled a new limited-edition of its Galet Annual Calendar School Piece. Limited to just 5 pieces, the new watch will be on sale exclusively at the high-end retailer Boutique Montres Prestige Geneva, hence its name Galet Annual Calendar School Piece "Geneva Edition".
Introduced in 2017, the 40 mm case of the School Piece (or Montre Ecole in French) was inspired to the first timepiece that Mr. Laurent Ferrier created in his watchmaking school years, a pocket watch characterised by lines and finish typical of the 19th century tradition.
Details like the straight, thin lugs and the “pastille” end-piece decoration mirrored by the winding crown emphasise the vintage look of the timepiece.
The new Galet Annual Calendar School Piece "Geneva Edition" features an opaline autumn-inspired dial with ruthenium Assegai hands and vintage-inspired numerals ("1-30") painted in blue. To animate the dial, the "31" is painted in red while the central hand indicating the date is white.
The dial is completed by a small seconds sub-dial at 6 o ́clock, with a circular satin brushed outer circle and snailed in the center. Just above the Laurent Ferrier logo we find the bevelled day of the week and month apertures.
The annual calendar complication recognises the months with 30 and 31 days, automatically advancing to the 1st of the month as appropriate. The only occasion necessitating manual adjustment is once per year on the 1st of March. A push piece on the left side of the case provides a simple means of adjusting the 'day' display. All other adjustments can be made via the crown.
The transparent caseback showcases the 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) hand-wound movement, comprised of 235 components and capable of running autonomously for up to 80 hours. The variable inertia balance allows to adjust the rate by operating on the screws affixed to its rim. This system guarantees superior performance compared to a simple index-adjusted balance.
Finishes are outstanding. Each bridge is adorned with pristine Côtes de Genève decoration and ruthenium treatment. The mainplate is embellished with perlage. The sides and interior angles are manually chamfered.
Presented on a chestnut alligator leather strap with co-ordinating Alcantara lining, the Laurent Ferrier Galet Annual Calendar School Piece "Geneva Edition" has a price of Swiss Francs 50,000. laurentferrier.ch
