After Chronographs and Sport Watches, today we highlight some of our favourite Dress Watches launched in 2019. Selected watches are listed alphabetically, not in order of preference.
Armin Strom Gravity Equal Force
The new Gravity Equal Force by Armin Strom introduces a new solution that helps transmitting equal force to the balance, thereby increasing the consistency of rate, thanks to an ingenious stop-works declutch system that operates inside the mainspring barrel to limit the torque delivered to the balance. This represents the first time a stop-works declutch mechanism has been added to an automatic winding movement. Beating at the frequency of 3,5 Hz (25,200 vibrations per hour), the new movement showcases finishes of the highest quality. In terms of aesthetics, while remaining coherent with the DNA of the brand, the new Gravity Equal Force displays a new off-center dial and slimmer case with a smaller 41 mm diameter. The Breguet Classique 5177 features, for the first time, a Grand Feu enamel dial in a blue hue that echoes the colour obtained during the bluing of the Breguet hands. The deep blue of the Grand Feu enamel required the development of special pigments to make sure that the colour remains perfectly stable during firing at over 800 degrees Celsius. Standing out against the blue background, the moon-tipped hands made of rhodium-plated steel guarantee perfect legibility while they sweep around a chapter ring bearing silvered Arabic numerals, stars, diamond shapes and fleur-de-lis. The 38 mm white gold case houses a state-of-the-art self-winding movement, Calibre 777Q, equipped with silicon lever and escape wheel to enhance chronometric reliability. Read the full article.
Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Squelette 5395
The Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Squelette 5395 by Breguet is a work of art. Based on the 581 Calibre equipping the 5377 and 5367 models, the new skeletonised 581SQ Calibre had to be completely rethought in order to allow the removal of almost 50 per cent of the total material. With a thickness of just three millimeters, this is one of the finest self-winding tourbillon movements in the world. The movement is housed in a 41 mm x 7.70 mm fluted case with soldered horns. Protected by a domed glass-box, the sapphire dial features applied hour markers in blued gold with the traditional blued moon-tipped hands to give the final unmistakable touch. Read the full article.

Eberhard celebrates its founding date, 1887, and the town where the Swiss Maison was originally founded, La Chaux-de-Fonds, with the new 1887 Remontage Manuel, a hand-wound model powered by a new exclusive calibre. The watch comes in a 41.80 mm x 9.60 mm stainless steel case with a slim bezel to leave ample space to the elegant dial available in two variations, with gold or rhodium-plated numbers and indices. The new Calibre EB140 is visible through the transparent sapphire crystal case back revealing its beautiful finishes. With the new Elegance Collection, Grand Seiko introduces a new design direction made possible by the adoption of a new movement, the hand-wound Calibre 9S63, offering a small seconds hand at the 9 o’clock position and a power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock. This elegant layout is ideal to emphasize the beauty of the curved dials, protected by domed sapphire crystals. The minute and power reserve indicator hands are also bent so that they follow exactly the contour of the dials. After the initial models in red gold, white gold and black ceramic with red gold hands and indices, Jaquet Droz presented the Grande Seconde Skelet-One Ceramic ref. J003525541, a new black ceramic variation boasting a dial with blued steel screws and white gold indexes, perfectly matched to a blue canvas strap. The 41.5 mm case features a black “NAC” coating that intensifies its power and modern, masculine character. The new Longines Heritage classic is directly inspired to a timepiece characterized by a sector dial that the winged hourglass brand created in 1934. Framed by a 38.50 mm stainless steel case, the dial features a central opaline disk which makes the blued steel hands really stand out. The watch is driven by the new calibre L893.5 (ETA A31.501) beating at 25,200 vibrations per hour (3.5 Hz) and offering a power reserve of 64 hours. Available in opaline white, ivory, blue, and black, the MeisterSinger Vintago draws inspiration from the elegance of past times. The functional typography and the flat glass domed over the minimalist dial are reminiscent of the style the 1960s, just like the brushed stainless steel case which comes in a discreet 38 mm diameter. The watch is thin enough to elegantly slip under a shirt cuff and comfortable on the wrist thanks to its size and lightness.
