To mark the new partnership with the "Blue Angels" U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, IWC is presenting the Pilot's Watch Chronograph Edition "Blue Angels" in a case made from matte black ceramic with a blue dial.
Made up from 141 members of the Navy and Marines, the “Blue Angels” U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron was created in 1946. In addition to spectacular solo performances, the aerobatic repertoire also involves maneuvers in the challenging delta formation of six F/A-18 Hornet jets.
Members of the flight demonstration squadron contributed to the design of this special edition.
The 44.5 mm in diameter and 15.7 mm thick black ceramic case frames a blue dial where the display of the minutes is on the outer ring while the hours on the inner ring, a detail that is inspired by early military observer’s watches. The hands and the hour markers are treated with Super-LumiNova for enhanced visibility even in poor light conditions.
The convex sapphire glass has an antireflective coating on both sides and is secured against displacement by drop in air pressure. Water resistance is 6 bar (60 metres / 200 feet).
Engraved with the crest of the “Blue Angels”, the case back protects the IWC-manufactured calibre 89361, a 4 Hz (28,800 vph) automatic chronograph movement that displays the timed hours and minutes together on a subdial at 12 o'clock. It offers a power reserve of 68 hours.
Thanks to the flyback function, the stopwatch hands can be quickly reset by simply pressing the reset push-button, making it possible to instantly start timing again. An inner cage made from soft iron protects the movement to prevent magnetic fields that might affect its precision.
Worn on a blue calf leather strap, the IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph Edition "Blue Angels" Ref. IW389008 will be available from November 2019 in IWC boutiques and from authorised retailers at the price of Euro 11,800 (VAT included) / US$ 10,900 (before local taxes). iwc.com
