IWC has dedicated two limited editions of its Big Pilot's Watch Perpetual Calendar model to Lewis Hamilton and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport team, winners of the 2019 Formula One Drivers' and Constructors’ World Championships respectively.
Created by the F1 six-time world champion together with IWC’s designers, the “Lewis Hamilton” edition combines a black ceramic case and a striking Bordeaux-red dial with a crown and a case-back ring made of 18-carat 5N gold. The gold-plated hands and the case back, rotor and characteristic “cone crown” made of 18-carat 5N gold provide luxury accents. The watch is matched to a Bordeaux-red textile strap.
Limited to 100 pieces the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition “Lewis Hamilton” ref. IW503002 has a price of Euro 51,800 (VAT included) / US$ 49,200 (excluding taxes).
The 10-piece special edition dedicated to the team features a matte black zirconium oxide ceramic case and a carbon fibre dial – both high-tech materials, used also in the premium class models such as the Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+. The black design with Petronas Emerald Green accents was inspired by the team colours of the six-time world champion and IWC partner. A black calfskin strap enhances the sporty look of the watch.
The price of the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition “Mercedes-Amg Petronas Motorsport” ref. IW503003 is Euro 40,000 (VAT included) / US$ 38,000 (excluding taxes).
The 46.5 mm x 15.5 mm imposing cases of these models guarantee water resistance to 6 bar (around 60 metres / 200 feet).
Both editions are powered by the IWC 52615 manufacture calibre whose Pellaton winding system, fitted with components made from zirconium oxide ceramic, builds up a power reserve of seven days in two barrels. The perpetual calendar, made of only about 80 components, displays the date, day, month and year to four figures, as well as showing the lunar phase.
The mechanical programme autonomously recognises that different months are different lengths, and adds a leap day every four years at the end of February.
The double moon phase display simultaneously shows the lunar phase in the northern and southern hemispheres and will only deviate from the moon’s actual orbit by a single day after 577.5 years. All displays are perfectly synchronised and can be easily adjusted via the crown if the watch is not worn for a prolonged period. iwc.com
