Glashütte Original is expanding its Pano line with two new models featuring deep blue handmade dials framed by cases in red gold.
A classic satin-brushed and polished red gold case with an ideal diameter of 40 mm frames the distinctive, asymmetric dials of these models.
The hour/minute and small second dials are aligned along a vertical axis on the left side, while the characteristic Panorama Date, presented in white numerals against a blue ground, is positioned just below 4 o’clock. The gold hour and minute hands are filled with Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility in poor light conditions.
At 2 o'clock, the PanoReserve ref. 1-65-01-04-15-01 displays a fan-shaped Auf/Ab (up/down) power reserve indicator while the PanoMaticLunar ref. 1-90-02-11-35-01 is enriched by a refined moon phase display featuring a golden moon and stars scattered across a silver sky. The various indications have been positioned in respect of the Golden Ratio – the law of aesthetic harmony that has inspired artists and architects for centuries.
The terms “Panoramadatum” (Panorama Date), “Gangreserve” (power reserve) and "Mondphase" (moon phase) are presented in German, as a reminder of the watchmaker’s origins.
Crafted in Glashütte Original’s in-house dial manufactory in Pforzheim, Germany, the dials of the new Pano models are the results of up to 40 separate production steps. To achieve their rich blue, they must be submerged in the galvanic bath for precisely the right amount of time and the voltage held at the right level.
Great craftsmanship is also required to create the grooved “vinyl” pattern on the surface of the off-centre hour/minute and small second dials, or the pad-printed numerals of the Panorama Date display.
The dial-makers in Pforzheim are also responsible for the production of the small disc for the PanoMaticLunar’s moon phase display. The disc’s two gold-coloured moons are turned out using a diamond-tipped tool, which gives them their beautifully convex form and unique brilliance, while the silver, starry sky is the product of an elaborate galvanisation process.
The heart of the PanoReserve is the 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) hand-wound Calibre 65-01 with a 42-hour power reserve. The traditional elements of Glashütte watchmaking are visible through the sapphire crystal case back: from the hand-engraved balance cock, screw-mounted gold chatons and blued screws on the three-quarter plate with Glashütte stripe finish to the duplex swan-neck fine adjustment developed by the German brand.
The PanoMaticLunar is driven by a 4 Hz self-winding movement, the Calibre 90-02 offering a 42-hour power reserve and the same exceptional level of finishes.
The new timepieces are waterproof up to 5 bar and fitted with a dark blue Louisiana alligator strap with buckle or a fold fastener in red gold.

Do the two models have the same price? I would expect the moonphase to be more expensive.
