TAG Heuer unveiled the third of five limited-edition Monaco timepieces created to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Monaco. Limited to 169 watches, the TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 11 50th Anniversary 1990's Special Edition ref. CAW211X.FC6468 has a price of Swiss Francs 6,400.
After the green 1970's Special Edition presented during the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix and the red 1980's Special Edition revealed in Le Mans, TAG Heuer unveiled the third of five limited-edition Monaco timepieces - each one inspired by the different decades from 1969 to 2019 - created to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Monaco.
Taking inspiration from the themes and styles of that decade, the Monaco Calibre 11 50th Anniversary 1990's Special Edition features a blue and silvery appearance with vibrant red elements. The grained rhodium-plated dial with sandblasted subdials is protected by a beveled and slightly domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating.
The flange and Heuer logo are in blue, and the indexes and central seconds hand are red. The blue of the Heuer logo and minute and second scales counters provides a bold contrast to the red touches on the hands and indexes and the red motif featured on the dial.
This colour scheme is used also for the blue perforated calfskin strap with red stitching.
The 39 mm x 39 mm stainless steel square case features angled chronograph buttons on the right side and the crown on the left – an unconventional feature that has distinguished the Monaco over the past 50 years. When the Monaco was launched, the crown was provocatively positioned on the left to remark that the watch did not need winding thanks to its automatic movement.
The caseback is engraved with the “Monaco Heuer” logo as well as “1989-1999 Special Edition” and “One of 169”.
Inside, the self-winding Calibre 11 beats reliably at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) with an autonomy of 40 hours.
