Jaquet Droz gives a new look to its Grande Seconde Dual Time, a model that delivers one of the most appreciated complications by today’s globetrotters.
The Swiss brand unveiled four versions of the revamped model, two with steel cases with black onyx (ref. J016030271) or silvery dial (ref. J016030241), and two in red gold with Grand Feu enamel dials, ivory (ref. J016033201) or black (ref. J016033202).
Framed by a classic round 43 mm case, the dial features two off-centre dials slightly overlapping to delineate a figure eight, or the symbol of infinity.
The upper dial displays the local time while the lower seconds dial doubles up with a 24-hour second time zone giving the reference time.
At the heart of the lower dial, the continents are seen flat from the North Pole in an azimuthal projection. The powdery finish chosen by the brand adds realism to the representation of the Earth.
The continents are depicted on a mirror polished backdrop in a choice of black or anthracite. Additionally, the 24-hour home time display is split into two distinct 12-hour segments: white for daytime and black (or blue) for night, making the reading of the home time more immediate and intuitive.
The local time, on the top half of the Grande Seconde dial, is regulated by jumping an hour, which makes it quicker to set the time on arrival at the destination. The date adjusts automatically to this change, and is indicated by a red-tipped hand that sweeps around a circular satin-finish applied ring.
The new Grande Seconde Dual Time maintains the same self-winding movement, the Jaquet Droz 2663H24 that beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vph) with a power reserve of 65 hours.
It features silicon balance spring and pallet horns, double barrel, flat bridges, and a heavy metal oscillating weight for improved efficiency.
Prices before local taxes: Swiss Francs 15,200 in steel with silvery dial, Swiss Francs 16,700 in steel with black onyx dial and Swiss Francs 25,500 for the red gold models. jaquet-droz.com
