Eberhard Museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds. This week, on Thursday June the 27th 2019 Eberhard inaugurated the very first Museum dedicated to the Maison.
Georges-Lucien Eberhard was 22 years old when he opened his first workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds, which was already the heart of Swiss watchmaking. It was the year 1887 and the brand established its headquarters in the “Maison de l’Aigle”, one of the most recognizable buildings in town.
In more than 130 years of uninterrupted business, only two families have been at the helm of the brand, a factor that certainly helped to maintain the original identity and the distinctive spirit of independence.
Over the years, the company had moved its headquarters to Biel/Bienne but one of the main goals that Barbara Monti, the company’s current CEO, had set for herself was the return of the company to the historic premises built by its founder, the Maison de l'Aigle in La Chaux-de-Fonds. This was finally achieved last year, on November 5.
This week, on Thursday June the 27th, two further important milestones have been accomplished. The first is the inauguration of the very first Museum dedicated to the brand, a move that emphasizes the continuity of the company over time.
The Museum collection consists of timepieces encompassing the entire lifespan of the Eberhard production. From the early pocket watches, testing the inventive skills of the founding fathers, and the first wrist chronographs, to elegant women’s timepieces and other men’s models characterised by a sporty style and high technicality.
Demonstrating the constant evolution of the brand, the showcased timepieces include the most recent collections and a preview of the new and exclusive calibre EB140. The numerous patents registered by Eberhard & Co. throughout its long history are the cornerstones of this amazing exhibition.
The second milestone is the return of the iconic eagle with outstretched wings on top of the historic building.
The historic eagle – originally positioned in its place by the company's founder – once again reigns over avenue Léopold-Robert after undergoing a long restoration process to return it to its original beauty.
The new Eberhard & Co. Museum will take part in the “open day” for the 9th edition of the “Biennale of Watchmaking Heritage” next November, a must-attend event for anybody who wants to get close to the world of Haute Horlogerie. eberhard1887.com
