In 2019 Zenith presented the new Defy El Primero 21 Carbon. In this model, the high-performance calibre El Primero 21 is housed in a futuristic 44 mm carbon fibre case. The price of the Zenith Defy El Primero 21 Carbon (ref. 10.9000.9004/96.R782) is Swiss Francs 18,900.
Zenith keeps expanding the Defy El Primero 21 line with models crafted from advanced materials. After titanium and black ceramised aluminium in 2017, followed by black ceramic and rose gold in 2018, in 2019 the Swiss watchmaker presented the new Defy El Primero 21 Carbon.
In this model, the high-performance calibre El Primero 21 is housed in a futuristic 44 mm carbon fibre case. And it's not just the faceted case and round bezel that are forged from carbon, but also the crown and chronograph pushers.
The high-tech composite material is lightweight yet extremely durable. It plays with light and reveals a unique visual effect caused by the alternating layers of carbon fibres that are randomly arranged, making each case essentially unique.
For the first time in the Defy El Primero 21 line, the cutting-edge 1/100th second chronograph calibre operating at an exceptional rate of 360,000 vibrations per hour (50 Hz) is given a deep black treatment to better harmonise with the high-tech case.
This COSC-certified automatic movement has a 50-hour power reserve, matched by a 50-minute autonomy for the hundredth of a second chronograph. It is equipped with its own patented balance-springs made of Carbon-Matrix Carbon Nanotube composite. The exceptional physical and mechanical properties of this balance-springs with its graphene matrix render it insensitive to temperature and to the influence of magnetic fields, well beyond the known 15,000 Gauss standard, thereby guaranteeing peerless precision in all conditions of use.
The open dial is also black, yet remaining readable thanks to contrasting white markings. The hour, minute and constant seconds hands, like the applied hour markers, are faceted with a dark ruthenium coating and filled with black Super-LumiNova.
The central 1/100 second hand and seconds and minutes counters have blackened hands with bright red tips. A look that embodies Zenith’s neo-futuristic, architectural design ethos to create the timepieces of tomorrow for the style-conscious watch aficionados of today.
The striking look of the Defy El Primero 21 Carbon is completed by a black textured rubber strap secured to the wrist by a titanium and carbon double folding clasp with black DLC coating. An additional black rubber strap with carbon effect is included.
Water resistant to 100 metres / 330 feet, the price of the Zenith Defy El Primero 21 Carbon (ref. 10.9000.9004/96.R782) is Swiss Francs 18,900. zenithwatches.com
