MB&F unveiled today a new iteration of its Legacy Machine Split Escapement model. Housed in a 44 mm × 17.5 mm grade 5 titanium case, the new edition features an eye-catching sun-ray, green CVD-treated dial. The MB&F Legacy Machine Split Escapement Titanium Green is a limited edition of 33 pieces with a price of Swiss Francs 64,000 / Euro 59,000 / US$ 68,000 plus local taxes.
MB&F unveiled today a new iteration of its Legacy Machine Split Escapement model that was first introduced in 2017 in four different versions, all in white gold cases, with “frosted” dial plates in blue, ruthenium, rose gold or yellow gold (you can read about them here).
Housed in a 44 mm × 17.5 mm grade 5 titanium case, the new edition features an eye-catching sun-ray, green dial.
Technical features remain the same. Just below the highest point of the domed dial crystal, the balance of the Legacy Machine Split Escapement Titanium Green slowly beats at 2.5 Hz (18,000 vph) but, unlike most of the other suspended balances in the Legacy Machine collection, it seems to oscillate on its own, without any visible intake of energy.
In fact, the essential remaining parts of the escapement, which provide the driving impulse – anchor and escape wheel – are concealed on the opposite side of the movement, almost 12 mm below; hence the name ‘Split Escapement’.
This solution requires an unusually long balance arbour, which runs through the centre of the movement and is fitted at both ends with anti-shock jewel bearings in order to increase stability. Two barrels in parallel provide 72 hours of autonomy.
Under the balance and its arched bridge, the triple-dial design of the Legacy Machine Split Escapement gives the time at 12 o’clock, the power reserve indication at 4 o’clock and the date at 8 o’clock. The date can be quickly and easily adjusted thanks to a push-button on the side of the case, next to the date dial.
Instead of the “frosted” finish of the launch versions, the dial of this new edition features a sun-ray finish - obtained through CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition) treatment - which changes between blue and green hues depending on how it catches the light.
