Since 2010, A. Lange & Söhne has crafted eight models using the exclusive honey-gold material for their cases. Thanks to mineral additives and a special heat treatment, honey gold is harder than other gold alloys and offers a unique warm glow.
The eighth model in this special material, the Langematik Perpetual Honey Gold, was presented at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie 2019, last January.
A 100-piece limited edition, this exclusive timepiece comes in a 38.5 mm case which is just 10.2 mm thick despite the complexity of its movement.
The case alternates polished and satin-brushed surfaces: the bezel and the strap lugs are polished to create a mirror effect while the middle segment of the contoured case is enhanced by straight graining.
Particularly luminous and rich of details, the solid-silver argenté dial features Super-LumiNova treated hands and Roman numerals in honey gold applied to the embossed outer circle.
Originally introduced in 2001, the Langematik Perpetual was the world’s first self-winding wristwatch that combined an outsize-date display and a perpetual calendar which takes the different durations of the months as well as all leap years into account. Once the watch is correctly set, a manual adjustment of the date display at 12 o’clock can wait until the year 2100 (a secular year that does not include a 29th day in February, one of the exceptions to the Gregorian calendar).
The display for the day of the week and the day/night indicator are presented in a subdial at 9 o’clock. A second one at 3 o’clock shows the month and, slightly below that, the leap-year indicator. A third subdial at 6 o’clock shows the small seconds and the moon-phase display which will require a correction by one day only every 122.6 years.
All calendar displays can be advanced individually or collectively with a recessed main button at 10 o’clock.
The self-winding L922.1 SAX-0-MAT movement and its flawless finishes are displayed through the transparent sapphire crystal case back. Beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, it features the patented ZERO-RESET mechanism which stops the balance and advances the seconds hand to the zero position when the crown is pulled out.
The bidirectionally winding rotor in 21-carat gold with an outer platinum centrifugal mass is integrated in the Lange-style three-quarter plate architecture of the movement. It accumulates the maximum power reserve of 46 hours after only a short time on the wrist.
The manually engraved balance cock with the characteristic whiplash spring for precision beat adjustments is a distinctive element of the A. Lange & Söhne movements, where all parts are meticulously decorated and polished by hand.
Completed by a dark brown alligator leather strap with a honey-gold buckle, the A. Lange & Söhne Langematik Perpetual Honeygold Limited Edition Ref. 310.050 has a price of Euro 87,100. alange-soehne.com
