Swatch Group has chosen its new Swatch Flymagic line to premiere the innovative Nivachron paramagnetic hairspring. The Swatch Flymagic debuts with three models, each limited to 500 pieces and with a price of Euro 1,500.
On August 29, 2018 we announced that Swatch Group, in collaboration with Audemars Piguet, had developed a new non-magnetic compensating alloy called Nivachron to be used for an innovative balance spring with exceptional paramagnetic characteristics, even better than those of silicon balance springs which Swatch Group also contributed to introduce in watchmaking.
The new Nivachron balance spring guarantees important advantages, including a significant reduction in the influence of the residual effect of a magnetic field on the running of a watch (a reduction by a factor of 10 to 20, depending on the calibre).
Made of a titanium base, this Swiss-made balance spring is very effective against temperature variations experienced in wearing conditions. In addition, it offers excellent shock resistance. Ultimately, all of these advantages result in a significant improvement in chronometric performance. The Nivachron trademark is owned by Nivarox-FAR, a Swatch Group company and the leading Swiss specialist in the production of oscillating and escapement parts.

The new balance spring, finely finished modules and skeletonized gear train all appear on the face of the watch – easily visible through the automatic movement’s transparent rotor. Another peculiarity of the watch is that the small second hand rotates counter clockwise, another Swatch first.
The Swatch Flymagic debuts with three models, each limited to 500 pieces and with a retail price of Euro 1,500. 45 mm cases in stainless steel or stainless steel PVD showcase the new movement through an antireflective sapphire crystal. All models come with one rubber and two high-end calfskin straps.
In the future, all Sistem51 models will feature the Nivachron hairspring. swatchgroup.com
