Breitling is worldwide renowned for its pilot's watches but the brand has great affection also for the seas. Its Superocean model was first launched in 1957 for divers and people active in water sports. In 2019, on occasion of the Baselworld trade show, the Grenchen-based watchmaker presented the updated, and upgraded, Superocean Collection.
All models of the new collection are equipped with the Breitling Calibre 17, a 4 Hz (28,800 vph) self-winding movement that offers a power reserve of around 38 hours and comes with a COSC certification as a chronometer.
The new Breitling Superocean Collection has been created in five different sizes (48, 46, 44, 42, and 36 mm), offering the right watch for every wrist.
The larger model is not the one that offers the higher water resistance but it is certainly the one that attracts more attention with its oversized 48 mm DLC-coated titanium case and blue ceramic rotating bezel that can be secured with a lock on the left caseband. A soft-iron inner case offers protection against the effects of magnetic fields.
Matched to a blue vented rubber strap designed to counteract the effects that water pressure can have on straps at greater depths, the Superocean 48 is water-resistant to 30 bar (300 meters / 1,000 feet).
The 46 mm case in black steel (DLC-coated stainless steel) of the Superocean 46 is available with either a black or blue dial and a matching Diver Pro III rubber strap with a pin buckle or folding clasp. Featuring a ratcheted unidirectional bezel, the Superocean 46 is water-resistant up to 200 bar (2,000 meters / 6,600 feet).
Black or blue are the options for the dial of the Superocean 44 which is housed in a 44 mm stainless steel case. Equipped with a Diver Pro II rubber strap or a stainless-steel bracelet, this model resists to a pressure of 100 bar (1,000 meters / 3,300 feet).
More dial choices are available for the Superocean 42: black, white or orange. The 42 mm case is crafted from stainless steel and can be matched to a Diver Pro II rubber strap or a stainless-steel bracelet. Water resistance is 50 bar (500 meters/ 1,650 feet).
The Superocean 36 is designed for women who want the quality and performance of a sport watch in a more compact size. It has a 36 mm stainless-steel case with a ratcheted unidirectional bezel and a choice of either a light blue or white dial and a matching Diver Pro II rubber strap or a stainless-steel bracelet. The Superocean 36 is water-resistant up to 20 bar (200 meters / 660 feet).
