As a preview of the novelties that the brand will be presenting at Baselworld 2019, Breitling unveiled the first of a series of re-edition timepieces aimed to celebrate the Navitimer. The new Navitimer Ref. 806 1959 Re-Edition replicates the design codes of one of the early Navitimers, the Breitling Ref. 806. As a preview of the novelties that the brand will be presenting at Baselworld 2019 (March 21-26), Breitling unveiled the first of a series of re-edition timepieces aimed to celebrate the Navitimer, the most iconic watch of the Grenchen-based watchmaker.
Introduced for the first time in 1952, the Navitimer quickly became one of the most appreciated chronographs by aviation pilots, especially for its innovative slide rule that enabled them to make all critical flight calculations.
The new Navitimer Ref. 806 1959 Re-Edition faithfully replicates the design codes of one of the early Navitimers, the Breitling Ref. 806 that was launched exactly 60 years ago.
Like the original, the Re-Edition has an all-black dial with tone-on-tone sub-dials. Even the Breitling inscription in capital letters and the unsigned winged logo accurately reproduce the details found in the 1959 model. The unsigned winged logo was used only for the European market, while the watches sold in the US had an AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association)-signed logo.
Another characterizing element is the rotating beaded bezel made of precisely 94 beads, exactly the number found on the 1959 model. In the course of the production period for the original Navitimer Ref. 806, the number of these beads – the small markings around the bezel – varied from as many as 125 in the early 1950s to as few as 93 in 1960.
Even the stainless-steel case, measuring 40.9 mm, has been developed specifically for the Navitimer Ref. 806 1959 Re-Edition, with the same lugs profile and finish as the original Ref. 806.
Of course, Breitling has improved the watch in some areas: water resistance has been increased to 3 bar (30 meters / 100 feet) and vintage-toned Super-LumiNova luminescent coating has been used for the numerals and the hour and minute hands.
Just like the original manual calibre, the in-house Breitling Manufacture Calibre B09 mechanical movement is hand-wound. Based on the Manufacture Calibre 01, it beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of 70 hours. Its precision is confirmed by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute) certificate that comes with the watch.

Looks good. I prefer this model to the new Premier collection that they presented last year.
