Presented at SIHH2019, the new Panerai Submersible Mike Horn Edition is inspired by South African-born Swiss professional explorer and adventurer Mike Horn. The Panerai Submersible Mike Horn Special Edition PAM985 is recognizable for the blue of the strap and the dial.
Inspired by South African-born Swiss professional explorer and adventurer Mike Horn, the new Submersible Mike Horn Edition by Panerai is a professional diving watch, water-resistant to a depth of 300 metres / 1,000 feet, with a special 47 mm case made of EcoTitanium, a material first introduced into the world of high quality watchmaking by Panerai, obtained not from the exploitation of natural resources but from recycled titanium.
The unidirectional rotating bezel has a new design compared to the classic Panerai and enables the duration of each dive to be safely calculated, while legibility in the dark – another of the basic requirements of every professional diving watch – is guaranteed by the generous green Super-LumiNova treatment used for the index markers and the skeleton hands.
The black dial has the typical 'sandwich' structure where two plates are superimposed with luminous substance between them for great legibility. The inscriptions “Panerai Submersible” and “Automatic 300m/1000ft” are not printed on the dial itself but silk-screened on the sapphire crystal which protects it.
The watch is powered by the P.9010 automatic calibre beating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vph) with a power reserve of three days. The solid back case is engraved with Mike Horn’s signature and an image inspired by the creatures which inhabit our seas.
The black strap, light, strong and resistant, is obtained from recycled PET to reduce environmental impact. Also made of recycled materials, the package of the box includes a second rubber strap.
The price of the Panerai Submersible Mike Horn Editions PAM984 is Euro 19,900 (including taxes) / US$ 20,500 (excluding taxes).
Together with the standard model, Panerai also presented a special edition, made in 19 examples available only in the Panerai boutiques throughout the world, which will offer its owners the opportunity to spend a few days of intensive training with Mike Horn among the ice floes of the Arctic.
