The Epurato is the third and latest watch line in the Anonimo collection. Launched in 2018 on occasion of Baselworld, the Epurato comes with slender forms and a less marked sport character compared to the other lines of the brand. Its refined design makes the watch very versatile and suitable for most occasions.
Anonimo is based in Switzerland but has a strong Italian heritage which dates back to 1997 when Panerai was sold to the Vendôme / Richemont Group and part of the Italian team left to establish the new brand. Anonimo pioneered the use of bronze in watchmaking and specialized in the production of sporty and military-inspired watches.
The DNA of the brand is recognizable also in the Epurato, especially in the typical cushion-shaped case and the unusual "04/08/12" numerals layout on the dial.
Crafted from stainless steel and offering water resistance to 50 metres / 165 feet, the 42 mm case alternates satin-brushed and polished surfaces and is enhanced by a fluted bezel. The case is perfectly executed and the perception of quality is instantaneous while handling it. The crown-guard on the right side is not only useful but also an aesthetically pleasing detail which adds variety to the design.
Thanks to the curved lugs, the watch will sit comfortably on most wrists (the wrist in our pictures is 17.7 cm / 7 in).
Protected by a sapphire crystal with anti-glare treatment on both faces, the dial displays the time with an alternation of applied indexes and numbers. The 04, 08 and 12 Arabic numerals are arranged to form a triangle suggesting the “A” of Anonimo which we find above the brand logo at 12 o'clock as well as engraved on the crown.
Completed by a small date window at 6 o’clock, the sober but distinctive dial offers excellent legibility thanks to the generous Super-LumiNova coating used for the hour and minute hands.
The model that we used for our hands-on review had a galvanic opalin off-white dial, an option which is ideal to emphasise the design of case and dial, but the Epurato is also available in a wide range of variations including blue, anthracite, green and black dials as well as bronze and stainless steel DLC cases.
The Epurato is equipped with a robust and reliable Swiss automatic movement based on the Sellita SW 200-1 calibre and enhanced by a skeletonized weight, decorated in the Côtes de Genève style, visible through the sapphire crystal case back. Beating at 4 Hz (28,800 vph), it offers 38 hours of power reserve.
The strap is crafted from calf leather with a very appealing black to grey gradient and it is secured to the wrist by a tongue buckle. Thanks to the quick release system of Anonimo's straps, it takes just few seconds to change them without needing any tool.
