As a preview of the novelties that Piaget will be presenting at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie beginning next Monday, January the 14th, in Geneva, the specialist of ultra-thin wristwatches unveiled three new Altiplano timepieces which highlight the mastery of the brand in the gem-setting technique.
These new models demonstrate the capability of Piaget to create pieces that blend watchmaking with the precise skills associated with working in precious stones.
The 41 mm white-gold Altiplano Tourbillon is characterized by a blue meteorite dial encircled by diamonds. Hours and minutes are indicated via baton hands and indices at 8 o’clock visually balanced by the eye-catching flying tourbillon at 2 o'clock. Beating at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour), the hand-wound 670P movement guarantees 48 hours of power reserve.
Limited to 28 pieces, this model represents the height of Piaget’s prowess in gem-setting, decorative stone dials and ultra-thin high watchmaking.
The 40 mm Altiplano in pink gold with grey meteorite dial is limited to an edition of 300 pieces. Purely classic, it only displays hours and minutes, with a date window at 3 o’clock. The distinctive lines on the surface of the meteorite are known as Widmanstätten patterns, typical of the crystallised nickel-iron structures found within iron meteorites.
The Piaget 1203P ultra-thin automatic mechanical movement is just 3 mm thick and beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour with an autonomy of 44 hours. Its 209 components and miniaturized, off-center oscillating weight in 22K rose gold have been meticulously studied to reduce the maximum thickness of this complex construction and to ensure optimal winding.
The trio is completed by the 36 mm Altiplano High Jewellery, an exquisitely feminine model with classic proportions. Limited to an edition of 88 pieces, it comes set with baguette diamonds on the bezel and dial, and a sunray-brushed dial in Piaget Blue, a particular shade between cobalt and midnight blue that has defined the maison through the decades.
Its 430P ultra-thin hand-wound mechanical movement measures only 2.1 mm thick and offers 43 hours of power reserve.
All movements are beautifully finished with traditional circular Côtes de Genève, circular-grained mainplate, beveled bridges and blued screws. piaget.com
