The Lange 1 is the most recognisable watch ever created by A. Lange & Söhne, the symbol of the Saxon brand. With its asymmetric dial and patented outsize date, this model won acclaim by watch enthusiasts, experts, collectors since its introduction becoming an instant classic.
It was the 24th of October 1994 when the company founder Walter Lange and his partner Günter Blümlein, after four years of hard work, presented to the world the Lange 1 and three other new timepieces, the rectangular Arkade, the Saxonia and the sensational Tourbillon “Pour le Mérite” (for full details on this subject, read our "History of the Lange 1" article).

The historic event of 1994 will be commemorated this year with an entire collection of different models in white gold that pay tribute to the key milestones of the Lange 1 watch family. They will all share some key elements like the argenté-coloured dial in solid silver with printed deep-blue numerals and hour markers, blue date numerals, and a colour-coordinated blue alligator leather strap with a grey seam.
Marking the kick-off of the “25th Anniversary” series, the limited edition of the Lange 1 features a deep-blue printed argenté dial with a recess, blue date numerals, a hinged cuvette with an engraving of Lange’s headquarters and a hand-engraved balance cock with blued lines.
The 38.5 mm case houses the hand-wound calibre L121.1 that was introduced in 2015 as an evolution of the original calibre L901.0. Including a freely oscillating Lange balance spring and paired with a large cam-poised balance to assure superb rate accuracy, it beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour and features a twin mainspring barrel with a power reserve of 72 hours.
Finishes are outstanding: the three-quarter plate made of untreated German silver, eight screwed gold chatons, and the hand-engraved balance cock. The outsize date with a “25” symbolises the 25th anniversary. For the first time the hand-crafted lines of the engraving pattern are blued.
The engraving on the hinged cuvette depicts the Lange headquarters that date back to 1873, the names of Walter Lange and Günter Blümlein, and a relief engraving of the inscription “25 YEARS LANGE 1”.
