SIHH2019: Santos de Cartier Blue Dial. The Santos de Cartier line is now expanding with a new version characterized by a metallic blue dégradé dial which adds to the with the classic silver dial with black markings. the new Santos de Cartier with gradient blue dial (ref. WSSA0013) has a price of Euro 6,600 / US$ 6,850.
Last year, on occasion of SIHH 2018, Cartier presented a streamlined version of the Santos with several enhancements including the Cartier QuickSwitch system (patent pending) for fast and easy change of bracelets/straps and the SmartLink self-fitting technology (another patent pending) which adjusts the length of the metal bracelet to the nearest link without the use of a tool (you can read more about this release in our January 20, 2018 article).
The design of the bezel was also updated for a smoother integration with the lines of the case and the strap as well as for a more dynamic look.
Of course, the square shape - which represented a break with traditional rounded watches when it was introduced in 1904 - was not altered. Just like the eight screws on the bezel, a distinctive detail which was later followed by others.
The Santos de Cartier line is now expanding with a new model characterized by a metallic blue dégradé dial which adds to the classic silver dial with black markings. The novelty will be showcased at the upcoming Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (Geneva, 14-17 January).
The Roman numerals stand out clearly against the blue background thanks to the reflective, mirrored finish nicely harmonizing with the hands. Differently from the classic models which come with blued hands, the hour and minute hands are here treated with Super-LumiNova for better visibility in poor light conditions. The dial is completed by a small date aperture at 6 o'clock.
The new blue dial is only available for the Santos de Cartier Large size (39.8 mm x 47.5 mm) and not for the Medium one (35.1 mm x 41.9 mm).
Alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces, the stainless steel case houses the automatic calibre 1847 MC beating 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a power reserve of 42 hours.
Featuring anti-magnetic nickel phosphorus components in the escapement and movement mechanisms, as well as a shield made from a paramagnetic alloy, this calibre is resistant to the powerful magnetic fields a watch may be exposed to in everyday life.
Delivered with a steel bracelet and a navy blue calfskin strap, the new Santos de Cartier with gradient blue dial (ref. WSSA0013) has a price of Euro 6,600 / US$ 6,850, just like the models with classic dial. cartier.com
