Introducing the F.P.Journe Tourbillon Souverain Vertical with specs and prices. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of its first Tourbillon Souverain with constant force, F.P.Journe is presenting the Tourbillon Souverain Vertical featuring a tourbillon with a vertical cage, rather than a traditional horizontal one, and integrating a remontoir d’égalité system (constant force) and deadbeat seconds.
François-Paul Journe created his first tourbillon wristwatch in 1991. The first Tourbillon Souverain with remontoir d’égalité in wristwatch form was launched in 1999. Only 20 examples were produced at the time. In a later generation of the watch, the French watchmaker also added natural deadbeat seconds.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of this emblematic wristwatch, F.P.Journe is presenting the Tourbillon Souverain Vertical featuring a tourbillon with a vertical cage (rather than a traditional horizontal one) and integrating a remontoir d’égalité (or constant force) system and deadbeat seconds.
Mr. Journe explains: “I designed this vertical tourbillon so that the tourbillon’s functions remain constant whether the watch lies flat or is placed on its side, and the amplitude is consequently the same, whether the watch has a deployant clasp and lies on its side or an ardillon buckle and lies flat”.
This vertical tourbillon makes one revolution every 30 seconds, two times faster than the usual one-minute tourbillon. Surrounding the cage, a cone-shaped mirror-polished ring was created to illuminate the tourbillon while reflecting its movement.
A second reflector was created on the movement side.
Available in platinum or in 18k 6N gold, the 42 mm case frames a dial decorated with “Clous de Paris” guilloché and, for the first time, an enamel hour dial at 3 o’clock. The dial is completed by an 80-hour power reserve at 12 o’clock and small seconds at 6 o’clock. The remontoir d’égalité is visible at 7 o’clock.
Beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of around 80 hours, the hand-wound Calibre 1519 is made of 18 K 4N rose gold and beautifully finished with Clous de Paris guilloché on bridges, circular waves on base plate, polished and bevelled screw heads.
The new F.P.Journe Tourbillon Souverain Vertical has a price of Swiss Francs 244,500 in red gold or Swiss Francs 248,400 in platinum. fpjourne.com

Technical marvel! From an aesthetic point of view still interesting but there other Journe models that I prefer.
