A preview of the new 2019 collection, Jaquet Droz is presenting Grande Seconde Skelet-One Ceramic Ref. J003525541, a new black ceramic variation boasting a dial with blued steel screws and white gold indexes, perfectly matched to a blue canvas strap. Price and full specs.
Introduced at Baselworld 2018, the Grande Seconde Skelet-One was the first Jaquet Droz timepiece that did away with its signature and unique dial. In its place, a sapphire dial integrated within a skeleton composition.
The Swiss brand was successful in creating a model with a radically new and bolder character while maintaining the distinctive hours and minutes counter with Roman numerals at 12 o’clock, intertwined with the large seconds counter with Arabic numerals at 6 o’clock.
After the three initial models in red gold, white gold and black ceramic with red gold hands and indices, Jaquet Droz is now presenting a new black ceramic variation boasting a dial with blued steel screws and white gold indexes, perfectly matched to a blue canvas strap.
The 41.5 mm case features a black “NAC” coating that intensifies its power and modern, masculine character and is beautifully finished with satin-brushed surfaces on top and polished sides.
Front and back sapphire crystals offer an unobstructed view of the skeleton movement whose plate stretches all the way around the case, which itself does away with the casing ring. With this new construction, the gear train is entirely suspended and fixed to the skeletonized bridges that cross over the movement.
The movement features blued steel screws that fix together the stainless steel hour circle and the sapphire dial. Each of these screws is “indexed,” meaning they are turned towards the centre of the dial.
The indexes are made of 18K white gold while the hours and minutes dial is crafted from steel with vertical brushing. As for the grande seconde dial, it is made from sapphire to reveal each of the movement’s details.
Total transparency was achieved by skeletonizing the 18K white gold oscillating weight which makes a circular revolution around the case.
