Sinn is launching the new 1800 Damaszener, a watch made from genuine forge-welded Damascus steel. The Sinn 1800 Damaszener (ref. 1800.040) is a limited edition of 100 pieces with a price of Euro 7,800
Made from genuine forge-welded Damascus steel, the new 1800 Damaszener by German watchmaker Sinn is a watch with a truly unique appearance.
In this new model, the characteristic texture of Damascus steel – an organic pattern of alternating bands of light and dark obtained by combining different types of steel – continues across the one-piece dial and the entire case which are forged from a single steel block rather than being designed as separate components.
During production of Damascus steel, two different types of steel are layered and forge-welded together. Using a technique which is more than 2,000 years old, the piece is then forged, halved while in a glowing state and layered together again. Experts refer to this as ‘folding’. By combining soft and hard steels, a new kind of steel is created, one which displays properties of both. In the final stage of production, the Damascus pattern is made visible through surface etching. The steels are dissolved to varying extents by acid, thus forming the typical light and dark nuances.
Each 1800 Damaszener is a unique timepiece, as the flow of lines is always different and cannot be physically manipulated.
The 43 mm case is particularly resistant to scratches thanks to the use of the exclusive Tegiment Technology, a special process which creates a protective layer ("tegimentum" in Latin).
Protected by a sapphire crystal glass, anti-reflective on both sides, the dial features 13 applied indices which, like the hour and minute hands, are treated with a luminescent material for visibility in the dark. Positioned at 6 o'clock, a small date aperture completes the dial.
Thanks to screw-fastened case back and screwable crown, the model is pressure-resistant up to 10 bar (around 100 metres / 330 feet).
Powered by an ETA 2892-A2 self-winding movement beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a 42-hour power reserve and delivered with two leather straps, the Sinn 1800 Damaszener (ref. 1800.040) is a limited edition of 100 pieces with a price of Euro 7,800. sinn.de
