F.P.Journe just launched a new design for the sportier models of the brand, the Centigraphe Sport and the Octa Sport.
Framed by 44 mm diameter cases in titanium grade 5 of anthracite colour, the dials of the new models sport a new bright yellow colour with luminescent appliqué numbers and black border as well as sapphire counters with eye-catching red numbers.
The bezel in titanium and ceramic follows the codes of the Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante with numbers engraved in the titanium base.
Titanium is frequently used in boating and the aeronautics for its lightness and it high resistance to corrosion and wear. The matte finishing used for these models emphasises their sporty character. To make the watches even lighter, movements are made from an aluminium alloy, keeping each watch under a total weight of just 75 grams.
The 3 HZ hand-wound mechanical movement of the Centigraphe indicates elapsed times from a 100th of a second to 10 minutes, visible on 3 dials.
The chronograph is started, stopped and zeroed by a rocker at 2 o’clock in the case band, instead of the usual buttons on either side of the crown. This ergonomic design, perfectly fitted to the wristwatch, is patented.
A second patent was granted for the mechanism’s ingenious configuration, which effectively isolates the chronograph from the timekeeping function. This means the balance amplitude is unaffected when the chronograph is running. The hands of the 100th of a second counter, the 20 seconds, and the 10 minutes hand are driven by 2 different wheel trains, themselves driven by the centre of the mainspring. Another separate train of wheels, also driven by the barrel arbour, drives the 10-minutes hand.
The barrel features a maintaining power system in order to ensure that the driving force does not decrease during winding. The mainspring supplies at least 80 hours of power reserve without the chronograph, and 24 hours with the chronograph running.
The Octa Sport features a day and night indication and a date now even larger (4.7 x 2.6 mm) for optimal readability.
Its automatic mechanical movement Calibre 1300-3 features a titanium rotor with a tungsten segment to exploit any slightest movement of the wrist to increase the winding of the watch and provide up to 160 hours of power reserve. The movement beats at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vph).
The price of the F.P.Journe Centigraphe Sport 2018 is Euro 60,000 while the Octa Sport 2018 is Euro 38,600. The new models are also available with a case and bracelet in platinum or in red gold with hammered finishing. fpjourne.com

Don't like the Octa but the Centigraphe is just gorgeous with that bright yellow dial! and I like the idea of the imposing size for a sport watch!
