Frederique Constant is celebrating its 30 years anniversary with the new Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon Manufacture, a complication model available in four different limited editions.
Equipped with a tourbillon device to compensate gravitational forces, this model is powered by the new automatic FC-975 in-house movement beating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and offering a power reserve of 38 hours.
It features escapement wheel and anchor in silicium, a material which is light, durable, antimagnetic and extremely resistant to temperature changes while offering excellent friction properties useful to reduce the need for oil. A lighter escapement wheel enables a reduced inertia for greater reliability and accuracy.
For this model, Frederique Constant patented a new type of tourbillon cage to which small weights are added to obtain a perfect balance. A “smart screw” system on the outer edge of the tourbillon makes it possible to equalize the weight and obtain a more stable amplitude and rate.
Sitting in an aperture on the dial at 6 o’clock, the tourbillon cage incorporates a seconds hand that rotates once per minute.
The Perpetual Calendar complication displays the day, date and month taking into account the months with 30 and 31 days, the 28 days of February and also the leap year cycle with the return of 29th of February every four years. The dial presents at 12 o’clock the months and leap year, at 3 o’clock the days and at 9 o’clock the week days.
Four versions are available, all housed in a 42 mm diameter 3-part case offering water resistance to a pressure of 5 atm (around 50 metres / 165 feet):
