For the all-new pop-up pod opened in Porto Cervo, on Sardinia’s Emerald Coast, Zenith is launching a 25-piece special edition of the Defy El Primero 21, the hundredths of a second chronograph model that was launched last year at Baselworld 2017 (we wrote about it in this article and, at the beginning of 2018, here).
The Defy El Primero 21 Porto Cervo Edition comes in a gleaming 44 mm titanium case inspired by the shape of the original El Primero models from the early 1970s with a white ceramic bezel to surround a skeleton dial which reveals lot of details of the high-performance movement.
Perfectly in tone with the maritime environment, the look of this new model is enhanced by deep blue accents on the hour-markers, hands, crown and power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock. Water resistance is 100 metres / 330 feet.
The 60-second and 30-minute chronograph counters are displayed at 6 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively while, at 9 o’clock, we have the small continuous seconds.
The El Primero 9004 automatic movement beats at 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz), while the escapement for the chronograph at 360,000 vibrations per hour (50 Hz) enabling it to reach chronometer-certified tenth of a second precision.
A visual and audible signature of the new Defy El Primero 21, the central chronograph hand performs a full turn of the dial in one second.
This COSC-certified automatic watch movement has a 50-hour power reserve, matched by a 50-minute autonomy for the hundredth of a second chronograph.
The in-house made movement is equipped with its own patented balance-springs made of Carbon-Matrix Carbon Nanotube composite. The physical and mechanical properties of this balance-springs with its graphene matrix render it insensitive to temperature and to the influence of magnetic fields, well beyond the known 15,000 Gauss standard, thereby guaranteeing peerless precision in all conditions of use.
The case back bears the engraved design of a yacht on the crest of a wave and the name Porto Cervo.
Matched to a white rubber covered with a sophisticated blue alligator leather coating secured to the wrist by a titanium double folding clasp, the Zenith Defy El Primero 21 Porto Cervo Edition (ref. 95.9007.9004/77.R594) has a price of Euro 12,900. zenith-watches.com
