The new First Omega Wrist-Chronograph Limited Edition is an outstanding creation from Omega that will be produced in just 18 examples - each one housing an original 18’’’ CHRO calibre from 1913.
In that year, Omega became one of the world’s earliest producer’s of wrist-chronographs and the 18’’’ CHRO calibre certainly contributed to the expansion of the brand.
Through a special process, the precious calibres — retrieved from heritage timepieces within their vaults — have been refurbished by the experts at Omega’s Atelier Tourbillon and given new splendour. Several hundred hours of handcrafted work were required to transform each of them. This way, these 105 years old movements are starting a new life inside these limited edition pieces.
Renamed Omega Calibre 3018, the refurbished movement is equipped with Breguet balance spring and bi-metallic balance wheel. The 18K gold-plated main plate and bridges are enhanced by grained surface decoration, hand polished bevels and countersinks. Beating at a frequency of 2.5. Hz (18,000 vibrations per hour), this hand-wound movement offers a power reserve of around 40 hours.
Inspired to the look of an Omega wrist-chronograph dating back to 1913, the new exclusive model comes in a 47.5 mm white gold case which frames a white “Grand Feu” enamel dial with blued “Empire” hands and hollow Arabic numerals. 18K Sedna gold has been used for the crown, pusher and central seconds hand.
Details like the 15-minute chronograph counter and the large crown are clear references to the world of aviation at the time of the First World War.
The hatched caseback can be flipped open to reveal the movement protected by a sapphire crystal.
