Ochs und Junior Day/Night. Ochs und Junior presented the Day/Night, with a function never before seen in a wristwatch: besides displaying time, date, and moon phase, it shows at what time the sun will rise and set, plus the current positions of the sun and the moon. The Day/Night can be customized on Ochs und Junior’s website. Prices begin at Swiss Francs 14,850 (excluding Swiss VAT).
Lucerne-based Ochs und Junior presented the Day/Night, a new model with a function never before seen in a wristwatch: besides displaying the time, the date, and the moon phase, it also shows at what time the sun will rise and set, plus the current positions of the sun and the moon.
Offering all of these information in a simple and intuitive manner was the main challenge that watchmaker and scientist Dr. Ludwig Oechslin took up.
Ludwig Oechslin is renowned in the watchmaking community for his inventions and revolutionary watch mechanisms, like his Trilogy of Time, with sophisticated astronomical displays in the size of a wristwatch, or the Freak, both developed for Ulysse Nardin. In 2016, Ochs und Junior’s Perpetual Calendar created lot of buzz for its simplified mechanics (only 12 custom-designed parts) and unique display.
Using the Calibre UN-320 from Ulysse Nardin as the base movement, the watchmakers of the brand implemented the new complication with just 13 additional parts offering to the wearer the following information:
- Length of day and night time for the location of choice.
- Solar noon.
- Sunrise and sunset.
- Position of the sun and moon in the sky.
- Moon phase, date and time.
The in three-minute video at the end of the article explains all the functions.
Hand-regulated by Ochs und Junior to 0/+5 seconds per day, the movement offers a power reserve of 50 hours.
Crafted from titanium or sterling silver 925, the 2-part case has a diameter of 40 mm, a thickness of 11 mm and features a solid back.
Using the pusher at 6 o’clock, solar noon (when the sun is at its highest point in the sky) can be set for the specific location of the wearer.
The Day/Night display will be customized for each client. In fact, since the lengths of day and night vary according to one’s position, the watch is manufactured specifically to the geographical latitude requested by the customer. This “position individualization” can be changed, in case one relocates, by exchanging one single adjusted gear wheel.
The Day/Night can be customized on Ochs und Junior’s website starting on July 25th, 2018. Prices begin at Swiss Francs 14,850 (excluding Swiss VAT). ochsundjunior.swiss
