A mirror image of calibre 100.1, the new hand-wound movement had to be redesigned for reverse rotation sitting ‘upside down’ in the case.
The partially openworked dial displays movement details such as the slowly beating (18,000 vph) Grossmann balance, the hand-engraved balance cock and the 3-band snailing on the ratchet wheel.
The ATUM Backpage is available in two variations: rose gold with grey dial and platinum with blue dial. The gold hour markers and 12 numeral match the case colour while the hands are annealed to a brown hue for the rose gold version or to a blue hue for the platinum one.
The three-part 41 mm x 11.35 mm case features a large crown for setting the time and winding the watch — the autonomy is 42 hours when fully wound. When the user pulls the winding crown, the Grossmann winder stops the movement. In order to restart it, the wearer must press the push button at 4 o’clock. This solution helps setting the time with the highest accuracy by avoiding any possibility to alter the positions of the hands.
On the rear side of the movement, the winding and hand-setting mechanism is now openly integrated in the train bridge, so its functionality can be fully observed for the first time. The stop-seconds and stop-balance functions have been redesigned as well. In the hand-setting mechanism, the brake position is sampled at the clutch lever and, via a push rod, transferred to the brake spring, which then stops the balance. After the pusher is activated and the movement starts, the brake spring returns the push rod to its rest position.
