At The Geneva Watch Auction: SEVEN organized by Phillips there is a special watch that has no starting estimate because it is a unique piece that goes on sale for the first time and, moreover, the resulting proceeds will be donated to a charity. We are referring to the A. Lange & Sohne 1815 “Homage to Walter Lange” in stainless steel that we presented at the end of last December.
Following the article that we wrote last week to present some highlights from the watch auctions that will be held on May 12-14 in Geneva, we here add a few more picks.
At "The Geneva Watch Auction: SEVEN" organized by Phillips there is a special watch that has no starting estimate because it is a unique piece that goes on sale for the first time and, moreover, the resulting proceeds will be donated to a charity. We are referring to the stainless steel version of the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 “Homage to Walter Lange” that we presented at the end of last December.
In fact, together with the three standard editions in yellow gold, rose gold and white gold, the German watchmaker decided to produce a one-of-a-kind example with a black enamel dial and a case crafted from stainless steel, a material that the German brand has reserved for only a very few exclusive and special timepieces.
A tribute to the man who played a key role in bringing Saxon and German watchmaking back to the prestige that it deserves, this watch is not only technically attractive but also technically outstanding for combining continuous small seconds with central jumping seconds with a start/stop function.
The proceeds of the sale of the present unique chronograph will be donated to the Children Action Foundation, a charity committed to the physical and mental well-being of disadvantaged children and young people around the world.
Another very interesting timepiece is lot 121, a Breguet Type XX in stainless steel which dates back to 1965
Introduced in the 1950s, the Breguet Type 20 - later named Type XX - was one of the most popular pilot watches produced in the post-World War II years. While originally intended as military timepieces, a civilian version was later produced without military markings to the back and with the Breguet signature on the dial. A fine example of such civilian-issued Type XX, this watch features a detail that was rarely featured on this model: a tachymeter scale. Powered by a hand-wound Calibre Valjoux 720, this watch has an estimate of Swiss Francs 25,000 - 50,000. Among the 313 lots that will be on sale at Sotheby’s, lot 179 will appeal all lovers of diver’s watch from 1960s: an IWC Aquatimer from 1968 housed in a 37 mm stainless steel case with metal bracelet.
IWC introduced its first true diving wristwatch, the Aquatimer, in 1967. Watertight down to a depth of 200 meters 660 feet, it featured a rotatable bezel for adjusting the diving time under the glass for further security. The estimate of this timepiece is Swiss Francs 20,000 - 30,000.

On May 14, during the Rare Watches auction, Christie’s will also sell lot 38, a F.P.Journe Tourbillon Souverain in titanium and pink gold produced in 2008, a rare limited edition tourbillon wristwatch with power reserve, dead beat seconds, certificate and box, made to commemorate the first anniversary of the F.P. Journe Geneva boutique. Estimate: Swiss Francs 100,000 - 150,000.
