Almost 30 years ago Eberhard decided to tribute the legendary racing driver Nuvolari creating an entire collection that bears his name.
Tazio Nuvolari (1892 - 1953) raced motorcycles and then sports cars and single-seaters dominating the decades between 1920 and the late forties becoming known as 'Il Mantovano Volante' (The Flying Mantuan). Ferdinand Porsche once called him "the greatest driver of the past, the present, and the future."
Besides creating a collection bearing his name, Eberhard has also been the main sponsor of the Nuvolari Grand Prix for over twenty years. In this role and through its Nuvolari watches, the Swiss watchmaker has helped enormously in honouring a true legend of motor sports.
The Tazio Nuvolari collection mainly consists of sports watches, and many versions have been added to it over the years. The latest creation in this collection is the Nuvolari Legend, an automatic timepiece available in two sizes: 39.5 mm and 43 mm in the Grande Taille version. The satin finished stainless steel case is completed by a rectangular push buttons and a screw-in crown personalized with the “E”.
Protected by a sapphire crystal with antireflective coating on the inner side, the black dial with luminescent Arabic numerals features a minutes counter at 12 o’clock, a hours counter at 6 o’clock and a spiral tachometer scale in km/hr in the centre which enhances the vintage look of the watch.
The Eberhard movement (base Valjoux 7750) can be admired through the transparent sapphire crystal base, which is secured by eight screws, decorated with Côtes de Genève finish, golden engravings and customised with a stylised Alfa Romeo Type 12C, a car which Nuvolari drove to victory many times.
Water resistant to 30 metres / 100 feet, the Nuvolari Legend is matched to an antiqued leather strap. The Grande Taille model is also available with a stainless steel “Charme” bracelet.
